I ordered some noodle plate (drunken noodles, I believe was the name) that was suppose to be mild (2 chilies level) & had "chicken" in it & to my surprise when my plate arrived, it was beyond spicy & barely had any scraps of chicken in it. (May I add it's an extra charge for your choice of protein raging from $2 to $5 if i remember correctly, depending on what you choose). My partner ordered a tofu vegan plate that was not supposed to be spicy at all and when I looked over at her, she tells me "I didn't know my tofu was was supposed to be spicy as well". I replied to her "give it a minute, we'll get used to it" & about 5 minutes into it we both looked at each other & said "NOPE" this ain't for us. This is the first time in our lives that we were unable to continue eating a meal while dining out. I was sweating, my insides were hurting & cramping up. So I asked the for the bill and when the waitress came, she looked over and noticed that our plates were practically untouched, she asked if everything was okay, I told her that the food was unexpectedly too spicy to our liking & she replied that she would gladly replace our meals but at this point I just wanted to leave and run to the nearest toilet, so I declined, paid our bill and left. When I got home I ended up throwing up. (Disclaimer: My tolerance level for spicy food is pretty high compared to the average person, so for a meal to upset my stomach like that... I really don't know...
Read moreMy partner and I love Jitlada because the flavors are bold and we always leave happy. At our last visit, we ordered the Khao Soi noodles with beef, Pad Thai with prawns, and the Evil Princess curry with chicken.
The Khao Soi noodles come in a coconut curry sauce with mustard pickles, shallots, fresh lemon, chili sauce, and crispy noodles. The coconut curry sauce is sweet, tangy, creamy, and all the flavors you think of when you daydream of Thailand without the spicy hot aspect. The sauce is so good that it’s difficult to not drink it and ignore the noodles.
The Pad Thai comes with the standard eggs, tofu, bean sprouts, and ground peanuts and it’s good, but it’s not the best I’ve had. Unfortunately the best I’ve had in this city is no longer operating. I’m not sure what it’s lacking, but it doesn’t stop my partner from ordering it every visit.
The Evil Princess is a mildly spicy red curry sauce with coconut milk, Napa cabbage and spinach. The flavors are more intense than the curry sauce in the Khao Soi but just as good.
The curries are a must here, but be warned that they do have one failing – meats and seafood can sometimes come out overcooked. However I’m willing to overlook this flaw as the flavors are riveting enough to transport you to Thailand and I highly...
Read moreFood is a solid 3/5. It was very bland but partly because they probably assumed we wouldn't like spicy when we actually love it. They never asked for spice level. Portions aren't that big. My curry had a few tiny pieces of tofu and like 4 small half cuts of potatoes...
Mainly went because of the 4.5 rating on here and being in the area at the time. I am honestly shocked it's rated so high. Maybe the atmosphere is kind of authentic with all the posters and signs and people like coming here to socialize and drink.
The staff was friendly but with some awkward moments. At one point the guy turns his head to stare at me as he's pickup up used plates and he spills some liquid from a chicken dish onto our table. He saw my shocked face but he never came back to wipe it down. We had to use one of the only 2 paper napkins they gave us to wipe it down.
I will say the prices are lower than other major Thai restaurants in the city but the size...
