Amazing views. Worth checking out. Very nice, noticeably well maintained, in-city park. Great for dog owners. And last but not least, for parents of younger children, or those that are care providers of children, the play area, is without any doubt, one the coolest ones I've ever seen. And throughout the years, I've at least traveled through, and I mean by way of either motor vehicles or train, 43 out the 50 that are part of the U.S. of A. And to expand a little on what is meant by, "coolest I've ever seen", I'd like to just expand on that statement a little. There are at least two, main towers, one of which is somewhat high up, but has an easy and safe stairway for getting up and down. All of the ground level areas, meaning underneath and surrounding all the play equipment, are of that sort of spongey material that doesn't really affect how someone is able to run/be active/etc. across it, but if said person was to fall down while running, or even off of something with a few feet before impact, this type of ground cover looks solid, and for the most part is, but it has a little give to it. Sort of like a sponge, but much more solid. Or maybe like a yoga mat, but like 10 or more times thicker. And just for a little more description on the play areas, there are a couple different types of suspension type bridges, then another sort that's more like a monkey bridge, but a little different design. Last but definitely not least, a little more about the views. I recently experienced a traumatic loss, so I've been doing a lot of walking around at night time. Reason for the midnight hour? Less chance for me to get distracted from what I'm doing my best to deal with, both psychologically and emotionally, due to less people out and about. Anyway, somewhat off topic, but felt like I should add some sort of explanation of why I'm an adult hanging out around children's playgrounds at night time. Enough said basically. Due to the fact that this is very well, one of the longest reviews I've ever written, I think I will try to make it a personal plan to update this review with pics. I'm thinking from both day, and night. Like around 2 p.m., and also 2 or so a.m. Thanks for reading if you did. Will try to get pics added in the next week or...
Read moreAlthough I've always thought Lafayette Park a lovely multipurpose, neighborhood park, after the Renovations provided by the CCSF 2008 Clean And Safe Neighborhood Bond, I think it spectacular! You can see the thought and planning givin to every detail of this particular renovation. Simply Gorgeous! And the new Dog Run is so much better, seriously! Not to be negative, but before the renovations, it was a barren, pitted, dirty place that turned into muddy swamp if it rained, ugh! But now, it's beautiful! A special surface was installed that looks like Astroturf, but must be an improved version. Of course you can tell it's artificial but it reads less so. It feels soft to walk on and not as slick as Astroturf used to feel. What really impresses me is how clean it always looks now. Even better is how it smells. I believe it's self cleaning and that's kinda amazing! This is one of the busiest dedicated dog runs in the city and now it always looks clean and well maintained, just fantastic! My Dogs really like this park and are never in a hurry to leave and keeping exercised and well socialized is very important to me because they mean the world to me. They are eleven and nine years of age and we've visited and continue to visit nearly every dog friendly park this great city has to offer and Lafayette is one of our favourites! I've barely scratched the surface in my attempt to describe the many aspects of this park that make it ideal. If you don't have a dog, no matter, relax and soak in the beauty of this park. They've packed a lot of improvement into this park and even if you're not a "park kind of person", Lafayette is a special worthwhile destination. I highly recommend but don't take my word, go see it yourself, you will be...
Read moreA delightfully serene place to escape from the daily b. s. of the city, fortunately the children's play area is separated by a hill and green spaces, to get away from other peoples screaming I'll mannered spawnlings.
Like Alta Plaza Park, Lafayette Park gets plenty of wind action, so air pollution from potheads is not a problem - except for the idiots that choose to be a problem by smoking nearby. You can't ignore them if they are stinking up the place. It is also not legal to go vigilante and shoot them for being dumb inconsiderate bastards either, although it is tempting.
Due to the temperatures plummeting after dark, with the wind chill aspect, camping here is not advisable - no matter how desperate you are. Although a few determined individuals persist at spending the night, but for the simple fact that they have no where else to go, and most of the addicts and thugs stay clear of this and Alta Plaza Park, just because it is uphill and residents are more inclined to harass the police until a patrol comes to assess the situation. Camping in exceptional conditions (it should be noted) requires special equipment, such as a tarp to be both wind break and moisture barrier, a decent sized blanket (preferably two, to layer and insulate against the cold) that allows you to stretch to your normal height/length. And if possible an insulator to sleep on top of to protect against the cold hard and sometimes "wet" ground, as badly chosen sleeping spots may flood or be saturated during the night. Also some parks keepers set the automatic sprinklers to function at night to minimize evaporation efficiency & deter undesirables...
