"Boochmania" today had the pleasure of dining at Boochmania, and it was an extraordinary experience.

If you’re wondering why this place has a 5.0 rating and hasn’t dipped all these years, step inside and prepare to be amazed. Boochmania is bringing some of the most unique, home cooked Turkish food to SF at a very unique price, with huge portions.

In short, this is a family run hidden gem serving exceptional food at an outstanding price. The mom, son and daughter are all cooking the food themselves. Everything is made in-house, the pillowy bread, vegetables, lamb, and it’s all seasoned so well without being salty at all. Every time is well thought out and executed to perfection and requires no modification.

They serve lunch and breakfast all day, and a wide range of house made kombucha, fermented foods, and no matter how much you eat you leave feeling light due to its high quality ingredients.

My favorite item is the pulled lamb burger. It’s a mountain of tandoori lamb, with a soft brioche bun, and a perfect light sauce, caramelized onions for sweetness and arugula to cut the richness. It’s truly one of the best bites you can have.

They also serve authentic Turkish coffee and tea which will leave you energized and ready for the day. I’ve come here multiple times over the years and it’s been always the exact same and each dish is served with passion.

They also have additional seating for larger parties upstairs as well so don’t let the charming front of house stop you from coming with a larger group.

What a truly special place! As soon as I began to plan a trip to the Bay Area, I knew I had to check out Boochmania, which seems to be the only kombucha taproom in the entire region. This place is doing a lot in a small space! They brew their own kombucha and have a fairly extensive menu of Levantine cuisine with an emphasis on fermented foods such as a fermented hummus. They also have other fascinating ferments such as chicha morada (a fermented purple corn beverage). They are a family-run business that moved from Berkeley to San Francisco after the pandemic.

Due to limited time in the area, I didn’t have the chance to have a meal here but needed to try their kombucha. They are generous with the samples, so my friends and I tried everything and then sat down for some flights of kombucha. The flights are served in enormous glasses which we appreciated! We also really enjoyed the complimentary mixed nuts. What hospitality.

Overall, the kombucha skews very mild in flavor. The boldest one was the currant clove, which was sweet and tasty. The rose and lavender and rose ones also had pleasant flavor. A lot of others such as the ginger sage were extremely mild. They are all very low in sugar and calories. I’m looking forward to making another trip here as soon as possible, so I can try the fermented hummus, the many many other vegan food options, the chicha morada, and whatever other concoctions they have...

He and his family who run the place are unstoppable. The elegant kombucha on tap consists of favorites like persimmon rose and currant clove, and new flavors, such as the new Peruvian corn drink I enjoyed last time. Having started in Boochman in Berkeley, the owner opened this San Francisco location in response to vocal fans who used to chase him across the bay. He started serving a small menu of tasty items like a mezzanine platter with fresh from the oven pita, truly filling, nutritious and tasty bowls and sandwiches. I enjoyed the many salads and veggies with my lamb burger. My vegetarian companion enjoyed the wide selection of vegetarian options and the miso lentil veggie burger. Everything is made from scratch here, including the vegan brioche burger buns, the Turkish pastries. This is a destination stop for the foodie. It is just over a block from the #SFMOMA, and it is well-travelled by the many office workers and neighborhood regulars who return for the exceptional quality, innovation, and next new thing to intrigue their palettes.
