I’ve had this place on my list to check out for quit some time. Excited to share this experience with my dad on a nice day out in my neighborhood, turned out to be the opposite. On arrival, during the afternoon, on a game day only one person was working, so grace was given and understood for the wait. We opened a tab then sat down after receiving our drinks while waiting for the empanadas to be ready. A kind customer dropped off our food because he saw how busy the one employee so we graciously thanked him. Another employee joined about 15 minutes in. She walked around clearing tables, but quickly passed by our table and took my dad’s glass before he was finished. She moved so quickly we couldn’t catch her before she dropped it off at the bar. First frustration. I then proceed to catch her to express I would like to order another drink, but she dismissed me and said I needed to wait to be helped out by employee number one. The way she responded threw me off, but I tried not to take it personal because I asked nicely and I knew there wasn’t justification for her tone towards me. (I then understood I could only order at the bar. No problem, I’ve faced rude people before and can get passed it.) She then proceed to make her way behind the bar to help two people out to lower the wait of the line. She helped out two people that were waiting before me and then exited to pick up more glasses before my turn to order without acknowledging me (at the least, she could’ve said employee number one will help me out when she done with the next person). A guest sitting at the bar even realized what I was experiencing and said something to me. Both servers saw me at different points and proceeded to help others. It wasn’t until being passed up for the fourth time, I voiced up and stopped them before serving another customer that had just walked up. Being ignored while I stood there patiently and other people seeing what was going on was embarrassing and hurtful. I really had high hopes for this place, but I will not be returning and have told friends...
Read moreBlack Hammer Brewing Company sits in the heart of downtown San Francisco is a small batch brewer offering unique, tasty offerings. Their DDH Cuddle Puddle smacked with taste bombs of grapefruit, passionfruit, mango, and peach. Barrel at the End of the Universe offers a Mike Tyson 11.6% barley wine uppercut. Their sour offering, Lilikoi Mezcalita, which translates to Little Mezcal Time, has hints of overripe fruit and a sledgehammer of smoked malts. Yes, smoke. My favorite beer of the flight was Tom Kha, a 5.5% witbier that tasted like a fever dream of Thailand. With notes of lemongrass, lime, coconut, and chilies, this crisp Belgian-esque was complex and refreshing.
The establishment was painted black, with both framed and non-framed art rocking the walls, like a Banksy wet dream. The restrooms were clean. Indoor space is limited, but they do offer a patio area right off the street. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive. A flight of four cost $20. They have a nice offering of canned beer...
Read moreSo I've been here a few times and the experience has been good for the most part. Good local craft beer and not usually too busy. They do not have food but are cool if you bring in stuff from other places. And the staff has usually been quick and friendly. That changed when I went this past Sunday. It was a couple hours after a giants game and the place was packed. Okay fine. We were able to get in and get a spot. After working through the crowd we were able to get a couple beers. Alright cool. Not wanting to continue to fight the crowd we decided to get a crowler to go and be on our way. Besides the bartender being clearly annoyed by my ordering this and trying to close my tab he also failed to tell me that this item is $32!!!! Seriously? 32 bucks for 32 oz. of beer? Yeah the beer was pretty good but not that good. This just comes off like pure price gouging of the spendy techie neighborhood which I am not a part of. Six dollar pints are normal but that high price for take...
