This was my first time in San Francisco. I was there with family mainly to see the Giants game but also to explore the city. ||HOTEL: |We had 2 stays split by a few days. Both rooms were 1 bed with a sofa bed. Cleanliness and quality was consistent betwen the two rooms. We did use the sofa bed, which was fine but a little squeaky. When the sofa bed was pulled out, it almost touched the bed so it was a tad difficult to get out of the bed from that side. The lobby looked exactly as shown on the website. There was free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate mix in the morning and water throughout the day. The same receptionist that checked us in the first time also checked us in on stay two. She remembered us and let us check into an available room at no additional cost at 11 am rather than wait until normal check-in time. (During the first stay, we were told that checking-in early would require an additional fee.) This was much appreciated after a long drive from Tahoe!||NAVIGATING THE AREA:|The area around the hotel was quiet though don't mistake that for meaning nobody is in the area. There were people milling about so it always felt safe. There is a Safeway about a block away for any items you might want from the grocery store. If you are staying here, you should walk over to Arsicault Bakery!||There are plenty of transit options to other areas in SF, but we didn't take them. We walked to Fisherman's Wharf with a stop at the Ferry building. It's a long but nice walk from the hotel. Waymo and rideshare seemed to be a more convenient option to getting around since the hotel is quite far from typical tourist destinations, but we didn't mind. Rideshare can pick up/drop off right in front of the hotel in the dedicated loading/unloading space. Approximately 2-3 cars seemed to fit at once and rarely did it stay full for long. ||GIANTS GAMES: |In terms of Giants games, it was absolutely fantastic to be steps away from our beds! Any transit or driving/rideshare will be backed up in the area before the games. It took around 10 minutes to drive from one end of the ballpark to the other about an hour before the game started even with police directing traffic. So, if you are coming to the hotel from elsewhere in the city I would get dropped off a little further away and walk the rest of the way. The staff wear 'Hyatt Place' jerseys on home game days which is a...
Read moreSummary: Hyatt Place Downtown San Francisco is a great option if you’re looking for a convenient, walkable location to explore the city. While the hotel has limited parking, the nearby garage is affordable and makes your stay stress-free. The friendly front desk staff made check-in easy, and overall, it was a pleasant stay. I’m giving it five stars for its location and service.
Ambience (4.5/5): The hotel has a modern, clean look, and the location is fantastic for anyone wanting to explore San Francisco on foot. It’s in the heart of downtown, so expect some city noise, but the convenience of being within walking distance to major attractions like Chinatown is a huge plus.
Authenticity (N/A): Since this is a hotel, there’s no rating for authenticity here, but the overall experience feels in line with what you’d expect from a Hyatt property in a major city.
Flavor (N/A): No food review for this visit, but there are plenty of local dining options nearby that you can easily walk to or scooter over to, including restaurants in Chinatown and other areas.
Cost (4/5): The room price was reasonable for downtown San Francisco, and while the hotel parking was limited, the parking garage across the street was only $30 per night. You can park there and come and go freely for 24 hours, which is a great deal for the city.
Service (5/5): The front desk staff were very friendly and efficient. Check-in was smooth, and they were helpful in providing tips on parking and navigating the area. Overall, the service was top-notch and added to the pleasant experience.
Tips for Visiting:
Parking advice: Don’t rely on the hotel’s street parking; there are only a few spots available, and it’s not ideal. Instead, park in the garage directly across the street from the hotel. It’s $30 per night with in-and-out privileges for 24 hours, which is one of the best parking deals you’ll find in the city. Great for walking: Once you’ve parked, you can walk almost everywhere. The location is perfect for exploring Chinatown, Union Square, and other downtown attractions by foot or scooter. City noise: Keep in mind it’s downtown San Francisco, so the streets are busy and a bit noisy. However, the convenience of the location outweighs the...

This Hyatt is like a regular Hyatt, but with less amenities, cleanliness, and comfort. We chose this hotel for its convenient location to Oracle park and walkability to local eateries/bars. The location close to baseball stadium is the only reason to book this spot IMO.
CLEANLINESS Our room had surfaces that clearly had not been wiped. Sticky stuff and smudges that were wiped away easily with a washcloth shows housekeeping is not up to snuff here. Additionally, the carpets floors on the 3rd floor were littered with debris. Clearly no vacuuming regularly occurs in the hallways. There was also ample dust on the light fixtures in the room.
COMFORT Our room was way too hot even though the thermostat was set at 65. The bed was comfy enough and the shower’s water pressure was AWESOME. I would’ve appreciated a non-down comforter due to how freaking HOT our room was. The bathroom mirror is way too far away for a myopic 5’2” person to adequately do their makeup. A makeup mirror or other option not requiring a straddle of the toilet would be grand.
AMENITIES It would’ve been nice to have water stocked in the room and the Keurig coffee maker didn’t work. Breakfast included in the stay was pretty good for a hotel, but they ran out of coffee every 15-20 minutes during peak hours on Saturday and Sunday. It would be wise to have two “regular” coffee carafes on weekends. The microwave available 24 hours a day was nice to be able to use, but didn’t hear food well.
STAFF Everybody except the rooftop bar staff were friendly, helpful, and what you would expect at a Hyatt. I love the baseball jerseys they wore for game day. The gal running the elevator to Kaiyo on Saturday 6/3 was rude. If they don’t want hotel guests using that elevator, it shouldn’t arrive when the button is pushed to go up. The elevator kept opening up and the annoyed Kaiyo employee inside was keen to make guests feel bad about not being able to use that particular elevator.
PARKING $75 a night to park your car is Hyatt robbery at its finest. Luckily, we took public transit and Lyfts around town, but holy hell that’s wayyyyy too much money to charge your own guests...
