*2/14/2024 Shrimp Dumplings: These delicate dumplings burst with flavor, and the shrimp filling is perfectly tender. Shanghai Siu Lung Bao: The soup-filled dumplings are a delightful surprise. Each bite releases a savory explosion in your mouth. Pork Siu Mai: These little parcels of joy are steamed to perfection. The combination of pork and shrimp is delicious. Crab Claws: Crispy on the outside, succulent on the inside. The crab claws are a must-try! Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll: Silky rice noodles envelop plump shrimp, which tastes ok for me, not my favorite. Chicken Feet: They’re flavorful and tender. Peking Duck with Lotus Bun: The crispy duck skin, paired with soft lotus buns, is a match made in culinary heaven. Black Bean Spareribs: These fall-off-the-bone ribs are richly seasoned with black bean sauce. The service is attentive, and the ambiance is cozy!
8/14/2023 Upon our arrival at around 11 am, we were informed by the attentive waiter that there would be a brief 30-minute wait, and we were promptly added to the waitlist. Our meal included delightful offerings such as shrimp dumplings, Shanghai siu lung bao, pork siu mai, crab claws, shrimp rice noodle roll, chicken feet, and the standout, sesame balls with red beans.
Efficient service delivered most dishes within 10 minutes, enhancing our overall satisfaction. The must-try highlights are the flavorful crab claws and the harmonious sesame balls. The fried crab claws were a revelation, encased in a crispy crust with succulent shrimp and crab within.
The dessert finale, sesame balls with red beans, amazed us. Reserved till last, they remained warm with a delightful texture. The red bean filling's sweetness balanced perfectly, while the chewy sesame ball defied expectations, testament to the...
Read moreThis is the freshest dim sum I have ever had! We were a group of 4 adults and arrived at 11:30am on a Friday. (We parked in the garage across the street by the cultural center) we were sat immediately. By the time we left around 1:00pm, it looked like all the tables were occupied!
Food: again, the freshest tasting I’ve ever had. Every dish we had was perfection. My parents, who enjoy dim sum in Chinatown over the years, agree. We ordered: the shrimp shumai (PACKED with shrimp), the scallion pancakes (light and crispy, not dense), Peking duck with lotus bun (amazing especially with the plum sauce), taro dumpling (so savory), BBQ pork char sui bao (steamed only because, baked didn’t appear on the menu. My favorite and did not disappoint), short ribs, garlic green beans, liu sha bao/custard bao (sweet and delicious), chicken fried bao, lo bak go/turnip cake (SO GOOD), chicken wings, pork dumplings (just crispy enough), and jasmine tea.
Service: fast, efficient, attentive and friendly. The food came out as it was ready and the staff “checked off” what had been delivered from our order. I’m used to the dim sum places where the servers walk around pushing carts with all the food on them, you select what you want, and then the mark a card as you purchase items. I appreciated this style of food service because we could order all at once up front, then focus on eating rather than hunting for more.
Price: for 4 adults, all the food above (16 dishes), with 22% tip came to $50/person. We ordered two of some dishes if 3 pieces were in the order. There were only a few leftovers, and they do provide small to-go boxes and a...
Read moreThe best version of many dim sum dishes including some that I loathed throughout my childhood. Incredible techniques in cooking some of the fried breaded dishes making it so light and crunchy.
It's the FIRST place that I had crab balls that was actually a Crab pincer with Crab meat surrounded by tons of shrimp wrapped by a delicate panko breading... It was so delicious with its light honey mustard sauce!!!!
Most places use substitutions such as a mix of fish and starch mixed into a shape of crab pincers.
I don't understand the previous reviewers comments because I have been disappointed with the other dim sum restaurants around this area including a high rated Yank Sing by Market Street which was only okay but just as pricey.
Rest of the places in Chinatown are plain dives that remind me of the ones near Honk Kong neighborhoods.
First time I had all three foodies (who claim this is better than some in New York Chinatown restaurants but not beating some of mainland China) agree that this was the place to beat. We are coming back to try other dishes since we were so impressed.
Each plate averages $7-9 so it's pricey but ambient is beautiful and spacious. Staff was attentive and ready at all times. The place filled up rather quickly after opening doors.
Only downside is bathroom downstairs which could use some updating and upkeep. I notice another room of tables downstairs so they might do dinner as well.
I challenge anyone who visits San Francisco Bay area to try this place and not LOVE most of...
