0 stars. I don't write reviews for restaurants but I had to for this restaurant because I have never seen a worse restaurant than this one. The servers really need to change their attitude or they just need better training. We received the worst customer service ever - called waiter more than 5 times to finally take our order. I called the waiter and asked what the most popular dish was and he just didn't answer me and walked away , never came back. We ordered the deluxe set menu ($50 per person and we were a table of 4) and they just came, put the food down, didn't explain what anything was, never came back to refill water, even to ask if anything was good. Tried calling the server several more times, they just look at you and walk away like they didn't see anything. All of the servers seemed mad and seemed like they didn't want to work. They automatically added tip to our bill so we asked them to take it off and paid tip in cash. A server came by before we left and asked for more tip and we said we didn't receive that much service and he threw the tip we paid on the table- bills went in the food and walked away. We took the cash back but this is unacceptable. If we say we weren't satisfied with the service, a normal person would appologize first and ask what they can do to make the service better. They don't throw the tip they recieved on the table. We paid over $200 for chinese food for 4 people, didnt eat any of the food because we didn't receive what we wanted, paid them 10% tip because of the bad service (though we really didn't want to give them any) and then the waiter throws the tip on the food saying we need to pay 20%. We usually pay 25-30% tip when we are on vacation, and we did pay 30% for all of the other restaurants we went to while we were in San Francisco because the servers were so nice to us and we had a good dinner and were happy with the service. You get what you deserve and you should be thankful that we even paid you anything when you guys didn't do your job at all. Please don't even bother to go to this place. Food is terrible and service is even worse. Seriously have never seen any place worse than this. I hope not all Chinese people are this rude. YOU DON'T THROW YOUR TIP AT PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU WANT MORE. Please learn, that is now how you get more tip. Also Panda Express has better Chinese food than you guys..... I honestly don't even understand how you guys are even running your...
Read moreI went for dinner on a Sunday with a friend while I was visiting San Francisco. Most places in Chinatown closed early and our options were limited. When we arrived there, there was a line for the restaurant next door and the Great Eastern Restaurant was moderately occupied. We were seated near the front of the restaurant and "assigned" a waiter. We ordered mushrooms and tofu with mustard greens and squid with seaweed. Our waiter asked us if we would like rice and he wrote down 2 orders of rice for both of us without mentioning whether rice was free or not. Service was relatively quick and there were a number(roughly 10-12) of waiters just walking around the room. We received the squid with the seaweed first and it was served in a badly chipped plate. The squid itself was slimy, mushy, cold and suspicious looking. We then received the mushrooms with mustard greens and two bowls of rice. The mushrooms were also slimy with no salt and the mustard greens were tasteless except for the bitterness. The rice bowls were also badly chipped and old looking. The tea was good. We wanted to leave the moment we were served the squid with the seaweed and left shortly after we tasted the mushrooms. It took us almost 15 minutes to catch the eye of someone to get us our check since our waiter was nowhere to be found. Our bill came up to $50 with the tip and the rice was not free ($4 for a bowl). After we paid for our food, a random waiter who was walking around yelled at us to leave a tip. Overall, this was a terrible place with overpriced food, rude staff and questionable hygiene. We'd give this place 0 stars if we could. We wish we had waited in line for the place next door, the Z&Y Restaurant which was where apparently President Obama...
Read moreMany people have voted based on their Dim Sum experience which I can't comment on, as we just went for dinner.
Initially started out good. We were seated quickly and drinks brought promptly. Appetiser of deep fried prawns went down well with OH. Unfortunately went downhill from there.
I ordered chicken with asparagus and steamed rice. Had to discretely spit out bit of chicken as it was lukewarm when bit into it and turned out to be raw inside! Asparagus was also tough and springy. OH's cashew chicken was hot at least so ended up sharing some of that but clearly seemed like stuff had been reheated. Rice was tough on outside of bowl and like mush in the centre.
The bill seemed to have a service charge added. Then as we were leaving I was stopped by waiter with what I thought was him bringing back change. I said for them to keep it and was told that we hadn't given enough tip and I should add another $5! Only when I made it clear we were not going to give them more did the manager gesture that we could leave.
So Obama may have been here for takeout Dim Sum but I doubt he would have liked the full service. They clearly know tourists will come in because of his picture out front and rather then welcome us it felt like they were just trying to fleece us with reheated food and demanding extra tips. Definitely would not recommend for full service. They only get two stars because drinks and...
