I was excited for the Alani roll because the description included "snow crab" but that's not actually what they serve you.
When I asked the staff about the the bright red/orange color indicative of imitation crab meat they confirmed that it was kanikama and not snow crab. I told them I ordered the roll because I was excited about the snow crab and they said, "all of our snow crab is imitation crab, kanikama." I explained that it was misleading because they actually have "kanikama" listed as an ingredient in other items, but this one specified "snow crab" and that was what I ordered and expected to receive. They reiterated that their version of snow crab was actually imitation crab... and I reiterated that I ordered snow crab because that's what I wanted.
I finally got an apology and a, "Do you still want that roll?" I looked at the rest of the menu and was disappointed and hungry and didn't want to waste food, so I kept it.
FYI my dining buddy got the Salmon in Yogurt Sea and said the salmon was on the verge of turning, aka getting a...
Read moreI used to love Fish in the Box, but I’m really disappointed with the recent menu changes. I was sad to see they no longer offer curry, and now the poke bowls are severely lacking in customization. Instead of letting customers choose their toppings, they’ve switched to pre-set options that don’t make much sense in a bowl (e.g., tomato, eggs). I don’t understand the reasoning behind these changes, but they’ve made my go-to order worse over time.
I even gave their newer, fancier options a try, but they were underwhelming. The rice-to-protein ratio in the bowls is way off, with far too much rice and not enough fish. The overall flavor was also disappointing—after trying them once, I knew I wouldn’t be ordering them again.
I really miss the old menu and the flexibility they used to offer. Unfortunately, with these changes, I don’t see myself...
Read moreWas out running errands in the Haight and wanted a quick bite so trusty Google mentioned this place.
So glad it did! It's pretty impressive seeing the girl behind the counter crank out all the orders during lunch.
Between 2, we ordered a sushi burrito, mini kaisen don and a eel avo roll. Everything was tasty, not the best it could have been presented given how lightening quick is was being made to keep up with all the tickets for orders.
The burrito is so worth it coming with a lot of fish. We even added shrimp tempura so it added to the filling. The Don had plenty of rice, fresh scallop and and ikura. I wish there was a supplement option to add uni but I was full and satisfied. The unagi avo roll was pretty basic and but the flavor was there.
Paid around $70 bucks and opted to eat it there in their small dining area. Great...
