Time Has Definately Changed About 20 or so yrs ago, I got introduced to this establishment when I moved to the area, and this used to be the only go to breakfast place when we needed a good bagel breakfast super early in the morning. It used to be jam-packed, and even before they opened, I remembered an old couple parked outside in their old Buick, waiting for their favorite pastries and bagels. I got hooked to it cause it's was the only place I really enjoyed bagel because of the variety they had. Then came the mini bagel period when I would order bags for holiday spread and all that was fun..... Fast forward to this year after 5yrs of living away, I realized the place has changed a bit and after experiencing amazing customer service all around the world and how it picked up after pandemic, quality customer service is what is needed in some businesses here in San Francisco. I understand it must be hard to try to pick up after the pandemic, but it's also sad to see how a highly rated star espablishment has gone down to a 4.2 here on google. I am one who loves to promote neighborhood minority and family owned business, and in the last 2 weeks, the cream cheese cooler has been half filled, and all the good stuff from the bottom are nowhere to be found like white fish for example. Whoever is doing production or controlling stock needs to be concentrating more on what runs out quickly cause maybe it will give u more money than those strawbbie flavored ones thats all pilling up in there.. I am more a loyal customer, kinda person, and if I like something or a business, trust me, that will be my go-to place weekly. It's hard to open super early, and I am sure staff work long nights, but a welcoming attitude and willing to help and suggestive selling might also go a long way, especially early in the morning.. I hope these guys the best and not go down like most places in the city. Let's Pick Up The Star...
Read moreSadly, our 50 years as customers has come to an end. The bad news is the customer service was TERRIBLE and we were disappointed with the size and quality of our favorite (pumpernickel) bagel. The good news is we’ll save the gas and hassle of the 100 mile trips. We ordered 2 dozen bagels on-line and paid almost $50 (INCLUDING $6 GRATUITY) for an 11 a.m.July 24 pick-up as part of our 39th anniversary trip to SF from Modesto. When we came to pick them up the young man behind the counter said, “We don’t have 2 doz!” I said, “But we pre-ordered and PAID for them!” He repeated what he said 2-3 times. A gal came to assist him. All she said was, “Sorry, we must’ve missed it (system generated printout)”. I was livid but calm so as not to make a scene in front of the other customers. Are you kidding me? Then they scrambled to fill my order with WHAT WAS LEFT in the bins: 20 (some flat as a pancake from piling them while they were still warm) and I had to resort to choosing 6 of another flavor. I asked him, “How can we avoid this from happening in the future since your store doesn’t accept phone calls?!” All he said was, “ I’m sorry.” I was so mad that I took my bag and walked out. In retrospect I wish I had asked for a manager. It was a very bad start to my special anniversary trip. I don’t know if there was a change in ownership and/or management but it was pathetic customer service which we PREPAID THE $6 GRATUITY FOR!! Sad state of...
Read moreI used to live in New England but spent a lot of time in NYC, home of the country's best bagels, which is an actual fact not just my personal opinion. I moved to the Richmond District in SF about 4 1/2 years ago and stumbled across House of Bagels on one of my neighborhood explorations so obviously the bagel addict in me needed to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised and quickly became a frequent patron. There is a cornucopia of flavors to choose from, plus a handful of different cream cheeses (aka shmears) that are incredibly robust in flavor. They also make really great breakfast sandwiches as well. If you're looking to get a latte or some other specialty coffee drink, you'll have to venture elsewhere as they only serve brewed coffee and tea. If you head there on a weekend or swing by during the morning commute, you're going to want to plan ahead and give yourself some extra time to get to your destination. I've been there for upwards of 30min, during busy times, between waiting in line, ordering, and then waiting for it to be prepared, but normally I'm in and out in 10 minutes or...
