First, a modest lunch for two (a burrito and drink each) cost $27! For a taqueria, that seems a bit outlandish, no?! And the food wasn't even that good today! :(
We ordered steak and prawn burritos, and they were pretty damn bland. The steak seems completely unseasoned, and the server was pretty stingy with the guac and sour cream.
The chips were stale. Yuck!
Maybe I was just less picky years ago, but wow, I have no doubt that any burrito-seeking folks can do better than this place nowadays. What a shame!
This is one of the places I go to with a bit of reluctance rather than an "Oh boy, can't wait to go!" kinda feeling.
I'll start off with the annoying stuff:
It's cramped.
Tortillas are steamed, not grilled. After trying grilled tortillas elsewhere, going back to steamed makes me a bit grumpy :(
They nickel and dime you. 50 cents extra to have some beans in my quesadilla? Come on. I'm already paying $9+ for the damn steak-and-prawn quesadilla!
Prices have been edging up pretty strongly over the last two years. A fancy burrito and an horchata'll easily cost you over $12 :(.
But the good stuff that keeps me coming back:
I've never had such an amazingly good prawn or steak-and-prawn burrito/quesadilla/etc. Come to think of it, I've never seen another taqueria that offers juicy garlicky prawns (and I don't mean the little tiny crappola fishyfishy shrimps, either!).
Parking usually isn't too bad.
The salsa and chips are actually darn tasty. I mean, come on, what's with so many other taquerias around here having chips that taste like compressed stale sawdust? Or chips that've CLEARLY been taken out of a bag that was shipped from several states away... last week?
The super burritos will easily last you two meals.
The horchatas are yummy, with tasty bits of fruit that actually taste like fruit :)
The tortas are also super-tasty! Try an untraditional one with chicken mole. Or bbq pork!
So, in the end, I still come here at least twice a month on weekends to grab a two-meal dealie. And besides the good taste, I figure this stuff is also reasonably nutritious (especially when I ask for a whole-wheat tortilla)... beans, guac, prawns, salsa... all healthy stuff...
Read moreRacist staff. I'm a black woman who speaks some Spanish looking to learn more. When speaking with this woman, I think her name is Ada? Not entirely sure. I mentioned spending extended periods of time in Guadalajara and Mexico city. This woman, in June of 2025, in California, asked me "what is your country"? I said "unfortunately this one". She stopped speaking to me and walked away. I am a guest paying full price tipping over 20%. I went back today, the same woman was there. I tried to say hi and she refused to acknowledge or speak to me. I was given significantly less chips than everyone else, and a woman who was checking out right before me got fresh salsa, while I got containers of pre packaged salsa. I asked for a fresh scoop of Pico de Gallo, which was given to a woman directly in front of me, and I was denied. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. IF I OR ANYONE. ASKED A LATINX PERSON. WHAT IS YOUR COUNTRY? can you imagine. And then made fun of them for trying to speak English. And then denied their existence. It was a traumatic and horrific experience. It ruins your self esteem. When you're trying to literally learn a new language. TO SHOW RESPECT. Not everyone speaks English in California. I feel it is my duty, to learn Spanish. And I am able to have conversations, and it makes me feel really proud to be able to show others respect that way. It was dehumanizing and heart breaking. I've experienced a heightened level of racism that makes being alive challenging and painful. And I do not deserve it. Black lives matter. Black lives matter 2. Today, I am 21 months sober. I live a quiet life and am actively interested in supporting small businesses. To be demeaned and ignored when someone asks me, "what's your country". It is completely...
Read moreThe food here is really great! I would venture to say the burritos are some of the best in the Bay. I only give it 4 stars because their order ahead and pick up is slow and not really organized. It seems that at some point between when I phoned in my order and when they said it would be ready they got really busy. So when I went there to pick up it wasn't ready and had to wait an extra 20 minutes. Also, I didn't know what to do because people were waiting in line to walk up and order, others seemed to be waiting in line, but were waiting for their pick up orders as well, and I wasn't sure if I could go inside to see if my order was ready. I did go in and had to give my name and tell them it was a phone order three different times. They told me it wasn't ready but didn't tell me if I should wait inside, how long it would be. Then when they told me my order was ready, I went to pay but it actually wasn't because they had to finish making the burritos. So another small delay. And lastly it's cash only. But the food is still really good and the popularity is what causes wait times. I still order from here but...
