This has been a hard year for restaurants and I asked a friend to go with me to help support one of favorite restaurants and the people who run it and also treating ourselves to a relaxed night out enjoying the best Italian cooking one could imagine. It's was St. Patrick's Day and hardly a creature was stirring. The streets were empty and so was the restaurant so we have the best table and service and pretended we were royalty in a castle being served by the best chef and cooks one could have. The owner was trained in Italian and his fondness for serving good Italian food is expressed in every aspect of the small neighborhood restaurant in the village atmosphere of Glen Park. My friend is vegetarian so we selected a salad and gnocchi to share. I got the steak to take home and eat later and have leftovers for other meals. We had homemade bread and I asked the owner to select a light flavorful wine to go with our order. My friend and I were very pleased with the salad with just the right mix of greens and gorgonzola delicately dressed. Gnocchi is a great comfort food and not many places do it the way I like it which is with a creamy sauce. It was just about the best I have ever had. I once had better when my Italian guest and his wife spent all day in the kitchen making his grandmother's recipe with his own grappa he carried with him when he traveled over the world for his engineering job. He stayed with friends and cooked for them. It a labor intensive process and worth it for the result. I wanted to lick the plate and would have if I had been home. The steak was cooked to order and was accompanied by roasted potatoes, carrots and green beans and a very flavorful sauce served as a side for take out. It was a good sized steak and beautifully grilled. I also had bread to take home with the main course. The owner knows his wines and what goes best with his offerings. In those situations, I prefer to trust the judgement of the host. I have some others I want to taste later but I was right to let him make the choice for me for this particular meal. Spot on. I don't expect such an experience again being the only guests and served with the attentiveness of a private chef cooking what he loves to cook and listening to his favorite Italian musicians waiting on village people, comparing notes on local conditions after a hectic day. But I do look forward when people can go out again and enjoy each other's company in such a pleasant spot with all the enjoyment that comes from good food and...
Read moreWe have enjoyed this restaurant many times in the past. Tonight we ordered online, paid, and arrived to pick up at the appointed time, with the receipt on my phone to prove it. The owner seemed embarrassed and clearly had not seen the order come in. Instead of apologizing and making it good, he proceeded to help people who came in after me, and shrugged his shoulders and said it wasn't his fault when I asked him what we should do now. I did then insist that he help me, at which point he refused, and I left. I understand that he was busy and embarrassed at whatever failure happened in their systems or in the back, but this was not minimally decent customer service. By the time I got home the order had been cancelled online, which clearly means he did finally find the order and he cancelled it after I left. Sad. I won't trust them with an...
Read moreThis restaurant is fantastic! Their food is out of this world. They spare nothing to dazzle your palette. Everything, I mean everything, was just delicious. I had the rigatoni with Italian sausage which was mouthwatering and have also had the veal scaloppine which was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. We shared a salmon appetizer to start that was perfectly paired with everything that came on the plate with it. The bread was fantastic too. This is only my 3rd time going here, and I guarantee you I will be back. Its owned by a really nice Italian brother and sister who work extremely hard to make this place exceptional. And the restaurant's interior makes you feel like you are...
