Horrible food and service. Read full review on why I say so.

I am a proper vegetarian South Indian and being hungry after strolling through Golden Gate Park for about 3 hours we (family of 3) were hungry and the name attracted us.

We ordered the namesake (Masala dosa), Medhu vada, 2 Garlic Naan and Mattar Paneer. There was poori on the menu but no side and I was told it will be just poori with no potato or masala side. When I asked about side and I was informed none. Are we joking. Nobody eats poori without a side.

Ok let’s move on to Masala dosa. The masala in the dosa was going bad already and tasted bad in the mouth. No need to guess on what they served as chutney was also going bad and the sambar was hot water with some vegetables floating. Sambar should stick to dosa when dipped. Please do not take me as high expectations. The masala dosa is the name of the restaurant so please do not spoil the name of the dish.

Let’s move to Medhu vada. Nothing to say about sides as they are the same as Dosa. Enough said. I just need one info. When was the Vada made. I am not averse to frozen food but this was probably from ice age. It belongs in a museum and not a plate.

The garlic naan kept coming to my mouth for about 5 hours and I was walking for around 3 miles which says a lot. The paneer in mattar paneer was just taken from freezer and dropped into the tomato peas paste mixture. It was raw and tasted raw.

Now jets get to service. I was served 1 glass of water for 3 people and no tissues, table cloth or cutlery. When asked I was given exactly 3 tissues and 2 knives and forks. Dosa, Vada and Naan with knives and forks. Ha Ha. Let me get to the biggest joke. After serving Naan and mattar paneer in a basket and 2 bowls for 2 people, I was asked if we needed plates. Seriously.

I don’t want to dispute other reviewers but it means that they really are desperate and anything goes. My humble request to them is to provide honest reviews so that folks spend their money right and get decent food. I spent around 65$ here. Maybe I should have tried rose Indian cuisine opposite this restaurant.

Avoid this place...

I had the worst experience in an Indian restaurant ever! We were there with our family yesterday for dinner. We ordered our food and ate it even though it was just ok and not as expected! Finally we asked for our check and the waitress brought it.. I was shocked to see that the gratuity(tip) was also added ‘as their wish’! But paying gratuity is actually always the customers’ choice of ‘how much he/she wants to pay?’ The check was $50 and they had already added a $10 gratuity(tip)! When I questioned them about it, the cashier guy responded to me very rudely! He was like he don’t care and give a £¥#*€ about it saying ‘you can do whatever you want..!’. So, people watch out when they handover the check to you.. I really wanted to give ‘0’ stars but there...

After reading reviews on Yelp and then here, I began to notice something peculiar. Especially recently, there were a few overlapping reviews (as in the names and scenarios seemed to be the same person) and in all the positive ones, the wording was slightly different, explaining an event in detail, but for all the negative ones, all the wording was exactly the same in each review, like it had been copy pasted. Maybe they just didn’t feel like retyping everything so they did copy paste, I hear you say. Could be the case. But idk, seemed weird. Anyways, def take the reviews with a grain of salt, including mine, but you owe it to yourself to try this place. The service and ambiance is great but the food is even better in my opinion. Will...

After a stroll up to Golden Gate Bridge in the dense fog, we needed to fuel up ourselves. Tracked down Masala Dosa, a casual food joint based on a busy street, however, surprisingly, it wasn't too busy. Found a cozy corner and ordered for South Indian delicacies along with Murgh Masala (chicken). Our food was served in the next few minutes. I liked each and every food item served to us— Masala Dosa, Idli paired with yummy tomato chutney and Sambar. Don't be confused with the name of the restaurant, they also serve North Indian food and I believe their strong suit is the Mango Lassi. Parking- No designated parking space, we street parked our car one block away and walked a few steps. Our server was respectful. #Day1 #SFO

Grabbed a quick lunch with a coworker here, as the restaurant we wanted to go to was unexpectedly closed on a Friday afternoon. We went here not expecting much, ordered their garlic basil naan, chicken tikka masala and lamb biryani. I have to tell you, the Lamb biryani was heavenly! Perfectly spiced basmati rice, lamb meat was very tender and was not gamey. The naan was great as well, apparently the yellow tinge of the naan is like what it is in India and not a lot of American Indian restaurants have this yellow naan. I was not impressed with their chicken tikka masala, was a bit runny for my liking, and seamed like it was missing something, but could not pin point what... but otherwise, this restaurant is quite good!

They took 25 minutes to serve the food even if there was only one customer in the restaurant. There menu serves a whole wheat paratha for $3 and in reality it's a frozen paratha from a grocery store which has a rubbery texture ,when confronted he just took it off from the table and began asking me whether I need it or not .Waiting for such a long time for the terrible food was frustrating and felt very upsetting by the managers attitude. The manager is very rude and speaks in a threatening tone .I took a video of him cussing at the customers . I will never recommend this restaurant to any one in the bay area.
