Hokkaido Sashimi Marketplace — Local services in San Francisco

Opened just a year ago the Hokkaido Sashimi Marketplace offers a good variety of fresh, sashimi grade fish.

We tried the Otoro, Chutoro, Tai, and Uni (sea urchin).

All good and reasonably priced for the quality received.

Helpful staff and they will slice the fish to sashimi or sushi sized pieces if you want.

We sliced our own and had sashimi and temaki (hand rolled) sushi.

In addition to seafood they have several shelves of Japanese snacks, noodles of different varieties, miso, and a few other basic Japanese...

Under-stocked and/or extremely overpriced when it comes to Japanese grocery items (soba noodles, miso base, etc). As far as prepared foods, the $15 rice-unagi bowl is a ridiculous ripoff; two tiny pieces of eel that are mostly inedible skin. Their sashimi & sushi were good, some items are priced better than anything Safeway sells plus the quality is levels above. I stumbled upon this store while walking in the neighborhood. Came in after 6 and saw they had a few boxes of sashimi left over at a 20% discount. This was on a Friday so I wasn’t sure if there would be more or less available. Overall I would say the fish was still good and tasty after sitting on the shelf all day. Even with a 20% discount it was worth it. I don’t know the whole selection of options, but guarantee there are better or cheaper options if you go...
