Oh Gordo. You are so delicious. What is your secret?
With a few hours left before a friend's wedding reception, I was getting hungry. I wanted to try Taqueria La Cumbre because I was determined to go on a Man vs Food run in SF... However around New Years Eve the traffic inside the city was No Bueno. So my family and I decided to try out Gordo's based on a recommendation. It was very strange going to a local Mexican food shop completed suited up. I know we looked gansta, but we were just hungry and felt like some good Mexican food.
Surprisingly, there were a lot of customers in the joint, but we happen to enter with no line. Since this was a new place for me, I didn't know what to order. I always hate that feeling whenever I walk up to any restaurant counter and don't know what to get.. because you know this annoys most workers. I quickly scanned the menu and decided to get the Super Burrito All Meat. I thought this would be pre-made order with no options needed, but I guess you need to pick what you want in the burrito. After placing my order, I wasn't sure if the server heard me because of how noisy it was in the kitchen. So, I repeated my order ALL MEAT. So he literally gave me a lit bit of each type of meat. No Rice No Beans No cheese No filling of any kind. I realized I should have been more specific with the fillings. Oh well, this time it worked out for the best. Carnitas, Carne Asada, Chicken, and Chili Verde.
I took one bite and I was in love. I felt satisfied that if this was my last meal on earth I would die happy. Add this to the list of items to rub in my face if I ever think about become Vegan. There's really nothing special about Gordo its just simple and delicious food. No silly names or brown rice, just a burrito, taco, or quesadilla the way you want it. Maybe it's lard or maybe it's made with love, but this 6 dollar burrito is way better than a lot of expense dishes I have tried.
I will make sure to stop by Gordo again next time I'm in San...

Alright, we've got ourselves two kinds of burritos: the delicious food and the four-legged friend (in Spanish, "burrito" literally means "little donkey"). Edible burritos come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors! As a passionate eater, I gravitate towards the heftier options, but the taste is, of course, a non-negotiable requirement!
Gordo Taqueria serves up one of the tastiest and most substantial carnitas burritos I've ever had! Whenever I'm craving a quick, delicious, and filling bite, Gordo's always tops my list. The place is small, but there are a few tables if you want to dine in. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful.
Naturally, burritos aren't their only specialty! They also have delicious quesadillas, salad bowls, combo plates, and more. However, my personal favorite is the Super Carnitas with black beans, rice, hot salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and their signature crispy carnitas generously spread on top! While they don't serve alcohol, if you're grabbing a burrito, it pairs perfectly with a cold Mexican beer on a warm summer day!
The exact origin of the modern burrito might be a mystery, but whoever came up with the idea deserves a lifetime supply of burritos (or maybe even a Nobel Prize, category...
Read moreJust don't waste your money. I hate to give one star as the place was clean, the staff was fast and friendly. The food awful. No flavor, and I'm not exaggerating. It was the blandest food I've ever eaten. I had a (grilled but didn't really appear like it) chicken burrito with rice, beans, cheese and mild salsa (seemed like just messy tomatoes) I might as well had been eating cardboard. No salt, no cumin, no cilantro, nothing that gives off a mexican food smell or flavor. How can this be? I added both a green salsa and a red one...that just added heat. Still nothing substantial to help make my burrito palatable. Sprinkling a little salt didn't make it much better either. The salad we ordered was the same...bland.
I was surprised how many customers had come in during the time I was there. They can't possibly know good Mexican food if they are repeat customers. I definitely would...
