Sadly, in the two times I've visited Rampant Bottle & Bar, the customer service from Charles (one of the owners) has been some of the worst I've experienced. It's such a bummer, as I was hyped to have a new natty wine spot in my neighborhood, but I won't be returning. Luckily, there are plenty of other great options nearby! More details below: During my first visit, in their opening week, my friend and I immediately felt unwelcome, almost as if we were intruding. Charles eventually took our order, but any questions were met with curt, impatient answers. I brushed it off, thinking I was just being indecisive.
Last night (10/3/24), I decided to give it another shot since the pet nat we had was good. From the moment the six of us walked in, the vibes were off-putting. Charles asked for all of our IDs and after assessing for some time he stated "I don't think I'm going to be able to serve you," due to a few of our IDs being vertical and one from out-of-state. He then quizzed my boyfriend (24) and sister (27) on their addresses and hometown geography in front of the other patrons, which felt unnecessarily performative. After the ordeal, he handed us our IDs, reluctantly realizing he could serve us, but we decided to leave.
We then went to enjoy a couple of glasses at tried and true Palm City, where they greeted us warmly and seated us right...
Read moreThis is the kind of place that makes you feel at home right away. Funnily enough, although it's a wine bar, I felt comfortable enough to take out my computer and work a little whilst enjoying a glass of sparkling Albariño, a first for me (even though Albariño is originally from my area, back home, in Spain! A very pleasant surprise). Simple decor, vibrant crowd, and most importantly, carefully curated wines. I don't know much about wine, but I was keen to learn and develop my taste, and all the staff, including the owners, were patient, so knowledgeable, but at the same time super nice and kind, happy to help me navigate the complexity of choosing something that would suit my palate. Highly recommend this little bar,...
Read moreRampant is a ray of sunshine in the foggy avenues. Newly established and eager to serve the neighborhood (and beyond), the space and service is completely unpretentious and exudes those laid back vibes that the Outer Richmond is all about.
I loved the mezze platter - some of the richest babaganoush I’ve ever had! Charcuterie, cheese and tinned fish. What more do you need?!
This is a great spot for catching up with a friend over a few glasses and a nosh. The wine selection is tight and interesting across any price point + retail bottles to go is such a nice addition for the hood. Bonus points awarded for having ice cold, fresh Peroni beer on tap.
I’ll be back again...
