I crave this place all the time.
My husband used to live here and this was our go-to breakfast now. We've since then moved a bit further but whenever we are going to the airport (or if we're on the way back from the airport), we make a point to stop out here.
Ambiance: Don't expect a super ritzy interior. To be quite honest, it's clean but a bit dilapidated and in bit of a need of an update. Case in point: the tables don't line up and kind of rock. The chairs do as well. They have a small (I think CRT?) television that plays news or sports. Also metal rack shelves holding candy.
Food: De-licious sandwiches. The bread is thick with a soft interior and crunchy exterior (I get the dutch crunch) and they are hearty, hearty portions. I saw their "large" size and that probably can feed a family of four. The meat is delicious. It's actually quite a simple sandwich - good meat, good bread, and fresh toppings. Not oversauced in the least (I actually am not a huge fan of Ike's for that very reason).
My husband gets bagels with jack cheese, avocado, and eggs from there all the time....
Read moreI am clearly an anomaly in this low review. Why do I come here you ask? This is the only café with the variety that you may want in a 5-10 block radius of my job. The owner likely is aware of this and she charges for condiments that you would normally get with the order. i.e. jelly, butter when you order toast. If you order an egg with toast she charges you for the plate if you choose not to have it as a sandwich. Salad dressing when you order salad. And on, and on, and on. I've never seen anything like it. Not to mention the owner is rude on top of clearly being money hungry. It sucks when you are at the...
Read moreStrong performance by an egoless little neighborhood cafe. Sandwich prices, like the decor, is from decades past: $6.50 each. Amazing quality and value for your buck, fresh ingredients and a nice assortment of bread and fillings. Their pastrami on a soft French roll was delish, and my mom wife's veggie sandwich in Dutch Crunch was also "yummy" by her account. They also sell donuts, pastries, smoothies, and all types of other snackies. Definitely check it out, they open very early and close fairly early...
