I get it. I know things have changed with the pandemic and the virus. I remember visiting here back in 2019 before my life fell apart drastically and this city felt so much better and welcoming.
Fast forward to a week ago, I decided to revisit the sunset area since it held a special place in my heart but I feel that San Fran has broken my heart.
Say what you want but I got the J&J just because I thought it was the best option for me as in terms of a vaccine and I also wanted to protect myself and everyone around me as well as have my life back.
Apparently when I visited here they required proof of vaccination via the vaccine card (and yes, every bar around the area was requiring that too which made sense) but when I presented it they said I needed a second dose (which ONLY applies to the messenger RNA vaccines) for a vaccine that is only approved for one dose which was disappointing since I didn’t get vaccinated only to get turned down and have the San Francisco experience that I had the last time. Needless to say I’m disappointed that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is not recognized here but if you had the Pfizer or Moderna you’re good!
All in all, I do hope the pandemic gets in check so we don’t have to go this route again but nonetheless San Fran let me down. I’m hoping one day when I get back this will all be a memory and things...
Read moreI have been going to this bar once every week or two for the last year, and enjoyed the bar and especially the back patio immensely because I could bring my dog there and enjoy a beer or two while watching a game. Unfortunately however, they recently hired a new bartender that decided immediately that she did not like me, and has since decided that my dog is no longer allowed because of her breed (she’s a pit bull mix), even though she had been with me to the bar many, many times and never caused any problems. This is quite frankly completely unacceptable to me on a number of levels, and I will never patronize this establishment again. There are far better bars within a block of this place, and while they do not have patios, the rudeness with which myself, my guest and my dog were treated, after being a regular there for more than a year, and always, no matter what tipping well over 20% (I have worked at many bars and other customer-service facilities all over the United States) is inexcusable and makes this bar a no-go...

It still is largely the same Blackthorn, but has some modern touches: new flooring, different lighting, some changes to the board...little improvements to the decor that, added together, make things a bit more warm and cozy.
4.5/5. This is for their trivia nights, held on Monday. But first a quick overview of the place.
This is NOT a hipster microbrewery. This is a good ol' fashioned pub. Reasonable drink prices, a rotating selection on tap, a full selection of games on tv. A nice place you can go and hang out after a long day of whatever it is you do. Hey, you deal drugs? I ain't gonna judge you.
The only downside is that they don't serve food, though there are a number of places that do in the neighborhood, and you are free to bring it in.
The trivia is a fun selection of topics that you don't need a PhD to figure out. Current events, a music round, celebrity photos, a theme of the week. A great variety,...
