My experience of getting my Samsung screen repaired was overall very pleasant but had a couple of hiccups, significant ones, too - the first screen that was ordered + installed wasn't the right "fit". It had a border on the edges and they confirmed it wasn't the right part.
At some point of time, my phone also dropped out of my gym shorts onto the heavy carpeted floor as I sat in an arm chair, and the back panel completely cracked. I took it to them and they replaced it right away,
The thing with Samsung phones is that you've to replace the entire set - front and back. IDK why but that's what I've learned. Either way, I appreciated the communication and ownership of the issue and waited for the new screen to arrive and be "fixed".
Thereafter, I kept having trouble with the front camera getting dusty and the face unlock refused to work. I tried selling the device but no one would buy it. At this point of time, I didn't know whether I'd done something wrong or whether it had something to do with the screen/camera.
I was traveling and found another store I had used in the past and asked them to solve the face unlock problem. They opened the device and showed me that the screen wasn't right and was cloudy, blocking the camera and went to the extent of claiming it wasn't original, showing me the cotton threads from someone trying to wipe the insides of the screen coating clean. He-said-she-said, so I left with a benefit of doubt without getting it repaired, despite having done business with second place for decades.
About a month later, I was at my desk in the middle of the work day and dropped my phone on top of my laptop, flat, while picking it up. It fell flat on the screen side and completely cracked.
Less than a foot of a fall and I was a little fatigued with the ownership of the device. I eventually took it to a Samsung store and got the screen replaced. Hasn't been an issue ever since.
It's had so many more falls after that and not a scratch or a crack. My experience and information leads me to believe that something definitely felt off in the process with this store and the number of visits I had to make were more than necessary.
Personally, I'd be wary of my experience and think twice before visiting this store again - especially since I paid a decent chunk of money before my cell phone insurance kicked in, at this store as well as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy mother-in-law spilled a glass of milk on my new M1 Powerbook and shorted it out. I'm fairly hardware savvy and have replaced my own batteries and fan on my old Macbooks. But with the new M1 Powerbook, Apple really made them crazy complicated.
I called up MOBILEFIX and David told me to come in immediately. I pad a $165 deposit/diagnostic which may not sound cheap. But in San Francisco for highly skilled technical labor that's fair.
I called him 24hrs later to check up on my Macbook and he told me they took it apart and found more fluid in the case. They flushed it out with electrical cleaning solvent and heat dried it up overnight. He texted me photos of the components. When liquids get into the internals I knew what parts could be damaged but I kept that to myself.
David went through the tests that they performed and his diagnosis matched my own findings. He gave me a quote for replacing the screen and heatsink and told me he wouldn't be able to fully test the logic board until those were replaced. I thought it was fair and paid him up front to order the parts.
It ended up costing me about $500. But he got my Macbook up and running without having to wipe the HD. A similar repair at the Apple Store would have cost double that (I talked to Apple Care). A less reputable or skilled repair shop would have told you there were more parts needing replacing and would try to upcharge you. But David said let's try the cheapest part first and see if that fixes it and it did.
Two things you should know: 1: The store is very cluttered and looks like my aunt's garage. The Apple Store it is not. But the work they do is top notch and I appreciate the lack of B.S. Years ago I brought my old HTC phone to this shop to get a quote on having the battery replaced but he flat-out told me not to; it would be cheaper to buy a new phone at T-Mobile. How many repair shops talk you OUT of getting a repair because it would be too expensive?!
2: David speaks in a fast, clipped staccato with a Chinese accent. Don't mistake this for "Salesman Fast-talking". If you don't understand what he said or the technical details are too much, just ask him to repeat it again slowly. He's not trying to trick you, he's just a little ADHD. Anybody who's worked around software engineers or hardware geeks knows what I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want to start by saying that I am posting this a day after Evan fixed my phone. I am copying my review over here from Yelp, so I don't have to spend so much time trying to convince everyone to go here. But seriously- Mobile Fix at 1099 Irving St. was awesome, and pulled my balls out of hot water. I was inches away from being part of testicle stew, but Evan stayed late to keep my balls stew-free!
My HONEST review;
LIFE SAVER! QUALITY! -- for those who won't read the whole thing.
I use my iPhone for Work, Personal, AND GPS. I've already had the entire screen unit replaced about a month ago, and BAM, dropped it on some carpet, and it cracked. Wasn't the WORST, since everything still worked. Fast forward a few days, something appears to be leaking in my screen, and it looks like the TV in Poltergeist, except like, worse.
At this point, it was already 5:30 p.m. on a Monday, and OF COURSE, I had a 1:1 Call In meeting with my Department Manager at 8:30 a.m. the following morning. This is a very difficult thing to accomplish without a phone. After basically just wandering around, I found EVAN, who was not only open, BUT STAYED OPEN LATE to help me out.
Evan installed an OE (Apple) screen assembly while maintaining entertaining conversation, and successfully talked me into FINALLY getting a phone case. [It's a baller ass one too. He hooked me UP, I got my wife one too.]
In summary: Evan fixed my iPhone 7 with Apple parts, while I waited. My total for a new screen assembly and 2 ballin' cases was less than I've paid for just a screen before.
He was fast, a great deal, nice, and I will be coming back to him for all my computer needs. (Just hopefully not ANOTHER screen.) I would've been in HOT water today if it wasn't for Mobile Fix.
THANK YOU FOR...
