I have been frequenting "MateVeza" since it opened at 18th & Church a few years back. The location at the edge of Dolores Park can't be beat. But what keeps me coming back, above all else, are the beers and the service. There is a rotating list of local drafts made with yerba mate (enough to give you a kick similar to a coffee buzz), as well as an interesting cooler of bottles from around the globe. My favorite on draft is the Morpho, regardless of the season or vintage. As for service, Jim and his team couldn't be nicer. Read moreWonderfully complex flavors. Love the Bret, the natural fermentation, the use of wine barrels, etc. The best part is that they have lighter options (4%) that still deliver on said complexity. You can enjoy a flavorful pint without getting tanked. The second best part is they have small format cans (8oz) for some of their higher ABV products so you can have just the right amount or open two to get one full pint. It's so simple yet so brilliant. I love so many of the breweries around here from Fieldwork to Cellarmaker but, because of their session-ability and format options, Wood's is the best as a go-to...
