Came here after a trip to the museum for a late lunch. We ordered savory crepes and 2 boules de cidre. (Cider was very good) We chose the Verte and Forestière crepes. The buckwheat crepe was crisp. The Forestiere was a 5. Verte was a 3. We also saw signage near the baked goods indicating that they were voted the best croissant in SF so I tried one with my Americano after lunch. Husband tried the hazelnut Paris Brest. I can imagine how the croissant would be good when warm (croustilliante). The inside was beautifully airy and light and leaning towards savory/salty which I thought made it more tasty. The Paris Brest was a 5. Freely chosen seating creates a little stress for the patron. (Nearly all tables were full when we arrived) Also the Americano (single and double shot) both were too watery arriving in cafe au lait like cups.

I have to say I really liked this place. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. The coffee was great. But the pastries were really the star. I was sad when Hearth on 17th closed because it can be difficult to find a nicely laminated pastry. You often have to go far and wait in line. Le Marais is a little treasure in the Castro. The chocolate kouign amann managed to be both light and compact (like a kouign amann should be) at the same time. The chocolate was pleasantly bitter and, of course, sweet. And the almond croissant was not too overbaked -- as someone twice-baked almond pastries can be. Instead, it was just crisp enough and just sweet enough. The only problem I had with the experience was trying to narrow down what to get and then overeating nonetheless. This will probably become a go-to reading spot for me.

🥐 The Great Croissant Debacle: My primary reason for visiting Le Marais Bakery was their much-hyped gigantic croissant, supposedly the largest in San Francisco. However, upon ordering, I was informed that it requires a minimum 48-hour advance order! This crucial information was nowhere to be found on their website or in the article that touted its size. This was incredibly disappointing, especially after a considerable drive. 🥐 Regular Croissant Quality: To get a sense of their baking, I ordered a regular croissant. It was dry and lacked any of the buttery, flaky goodness you expect from a decent croissant. A complete letdown. ☕ Service Issues: The service was far from satisfactory. The staff member I interacted with was not particularly helpful. Additionally, despite bringing our own reusable coffee cups, our coffee took an inexplicably long time to be served, arriving after other customers who had ordered after us. This felt disorganized and inconsiderate. 🌐 Misleading Information: The fact that the 48-hour pre-order requirement for their signature item isn't clearly stated online is a significant issue and a major inconvenience for customers. 👎 Overall: My experience at Le Marais Bakery was thoroughly disappointing. From the misleading information about their advertised specialty to the subpar quality of the regular croissant and the poor service, I cannot recommend this bakery. Save your time and look elsewhere for your pastry cravings.

Was so excited to try out this bakery. I came in close to the kitchen close time. The service and atmosphere was great. I ordered the fraise crepe and fries. I honestly wouldn’t be writing this review if it wasn’t for the fact that there literal broken pieces of a ceramic (not from the bowl I was served in) in my fries! At first, I saw white speckles and I thought it was just huge pieces of salt until I saw a large piece of a broken ceramic at the bottom of my plate after I’d basically eaten most of the fries! I wonder how many of the tiny pieces I actually ate without realizing. I don’t know what happened in the kitchen for that to end up in my food but if I had swallowed that piece without realizing, I literally could have died?? How is there loose pieces of ceramics just making it into the food?? This is gross negligence, like i literally cannot wrap my head around it. This was honestly such a horrible experience.
