This might be the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. I went here and was immensely satisfied with my experience. I walked in here and was seated right away at a table for two near the kitchen. It was a little busy when I got here, but most of the crowd cleared out while I was waiting for my food. Since it was busy when I got here, it took a few minutes to be given a menu. This restaurant has a large menu, with things like noodles, duck, and pigeon. I came here because I wanted to try one of the ducks that was hanging in the restaurant’s front window. However, I ended up getting the roast pigeon instead because I wanted to give pigeon a try. A waiter walked up to me and directly asked me what I wanted to order, not asking how my day was going or if there was anything I wanted to ask him about, which was awesome because I prefer this type of service. While I was waiting for my roast pigeon, my waiter gave me a complementary teapot and two cups since I was with another person. The tea tasted pretty good, but it was hot so I didn’t drink it until it cooled down. After waiting for a moderate amount of time my food came. The person I was with got some noodles for $9, and the bowl they were in was large enough to feed two people. My pigeon cost $13, and it was an entire pigeon, bones and head still intact. It tasted great and it had a nice amount of sauce. While I was eating it the skin peeled away from the meat, which was surprisingly tasty. I used a fork to break the pigeon’s head, which still had its brain and eyeballs inside. The brain was actually pretty tasty, but I didn’t like the eyeballs that much because they had the same texture as gummy bears, which I don’t like that much. This pigeon was kind of large, but I finished the entire thing because it was that good. Once I was done, I left the restaurant, immensely satisfied with my experience. I gave this restaurant five stars because it has amazing food at a reasonable price for San Francisco, and I received...
Read moreI would give this restaurant 0 star if google allows me to do so. I had a bowl of sampan porridge there this morning. The porridge is just so so, not as delicious as what I had in Guangzhou. However, the real drama happened at the time I went to pay the bill. The cashier's attitude is pretty bad! He told me that they only accept cash and I can't pay the bill by card for only a $10 porridge. I told him that I didn't have cash at hand, and I would like to pay by card. He replied in a humiliating manner: "how can you come to eat porridge and don't even have $10?" I thought they might have a minimum required amount for card payment, so I said: "what about I pay you $30 by card and you give me $20 change?" Then he replied that it is Sunday morning and we don't have change. In fact I saw him got lots of cash in the pocket. Finally I went to the ATM nearby to withdraw a $50 note to pay, then he had cash change now, and ask me to pay another $1 for the tip. Oh, such a bad service and dare to ask for tips! This is my worst dining experience in US so far. I will never come to this restaurant again, and I strongly recommend that you don't try this restaurant, unless you want to ruin your good mood in your trip. It's a really shame on them. Obviously they want to avoid some tax. Later my friend in America told me that it is illegal for a restaurant to force the client to do cash payment and refuse card payment, and I can sue them and win for sure. How can the cashier in this restaurant be so arrogant while doing obviously illegal things? Did he think that tourists are stupid and...
Read moreThe cost of the meal was low and matches the quality of the food. We ordered a 3 meal combination for $22.80 (or approximate to that amount). It seemed like a good value but the dishes were mediocre.
We ordered seafood with fried tofu, beef with radish and another item. The sauces for each item were the same so I felt like I was eating basically the same food out of each meal. The flavour of the food, however, was quite good, just a bit repetitive. The introductory soup was quite unusual tasting, tasting like a herbal chicken with bean. It was not bad, just not something I am familiar with.
Moreover, I must comment about the hygiene of this restaurant as I found some disturbing evidence of poor practise. I found our server using his hands to move food back into the serving bowl for our meal, which is unappealing. The lavatory, however, deserves a resounding mention for its absolutely terrifying condition. The floor was completely wet and had a most foul odour emanating from the u-bend, and most noteworthy was the black stains/powdery marks (I presume to be mold) around the grout of the sink. Note that you must traverse through the dish washing station part of the kitchen to enter the lavatory. Then, to top it off, the violent flush of the toilet splashed water on to my leg. I was repulsed in a way I have never been before.
Overall, the restaurant was adequate. It is noteworthy that my parents were delighted with the restaurant as was my sister. I may not be very thrilled with my experience here but I am sure others will find...
