7:05 am and no staff member to be seen. All the lights are off inside. No one responds at the drive-thru (yet the screen shows a total from a previous order). No one at the window. A mysterious white van sits out front, only deepening the mystery of the missing cashier. Was s/he murdered? Abducted? A more likely scenario, I think, is that someone was late to work. Still, not cool.
Worst part is we drove to another Carls Jr in hopes of french toast sticks, only to be disappointed to find that location was also not open yet, despite their posted hours. At least someone opened the window there to tell us they were having a problem with some piece of equipment and that it would be "a couple minutes...like 20 minutes." Not willing to take a chance on a time estimate that jumps from 2 to 20 minutes in the split second it takes to utter the word "like."
It's unfortunate Carls Jr is making a habit of not being open when they're supposed to be, because they actually make good food.
My previous experience with this location (when someone was actually manning their station) was with a cashier working the night shift, who we later found out was new. The reason why we had the opportunity to find this out is because we had to go back after discovering he gave us someone else's order. Sometimes I'll just put up with a mistake like that, but the order was completely different. He was also rather stingy with the whip on the shakes. I understand everyone needs time and practice to learn, but employees should be supervised and have their work checked if they haven't reached a certain level of competency yet. Don't just throw them to the wolves and leave them to fend for themselves during a dinner rush. I've worked in food service before; I understand how it is to not have the training you need.
Whether the issue be training, competency, or punctuality, someone needs to step up their game. Food is good enough to be desired; yet, service is very hit or miss and leaves something to be desired. Unpredictability, inconsistency, or lack of dependability are not traits you want associated with...

Read moreI've been coming here frequently for quite some time now and I've never been disappointed. But yesterday there a Hispanic woman and gentleman running the counter. I believe the woman is manager as I've seen her a few times before as she wore the nicer shirt instead of a T-Shirt like everyone else. But yesterday (11/15/16) I stood at the front of the counter waiting for them to take my order. I waited roughly 5 minutes but to no response to either of them. We've made eye contact early on but neither decided to greet me or even ask if I was ready. I will admit that I was browsing on my phone waiting for them after some time waiting. But either way at least ask if the customer is ready. I've been in the restaurant business for many years before and I know that kind of behavior is unacceptable. The reason I am leaving them two stars is for the excellent customer service that Curtis and the other cashiers brings to...
