Whenever talking about the best burrito places in San Jose, La Victoria is commonly mentioned. On my list of best burrito places you can find that number two or three, depending on which location you go to. This particular location can be a little bit hit or miss, but most of the time, they get things right.
I can't place it at number one because the item that really makes the meal is the orange sauce. The orange sauce here is so popular that it's even sold separately, and it adds the majority of flavor to most of the dishes. I can't recommend the orange sauce for everyone because it's mayo-based, and on the spicier side. So, if your stomach is particularly sensitive, you may want to avoid it. If you're into spicy things and looking for a good burrito, this is the place.
I hate to admit it, but there are some downsides to the ordering process. This location has a self-ordering system where you can pay without talking to anyone, which can seem like less of a hassle than dealing with the staff here. Even when I paid with a credit card, the person taking my order conveniently shook the tip jar, and I couldn't help but think that's something you should have integrated into the credit card payment system.
Asking for a tip on digital devices has become a hot topic lately, but considering how many Americans are only carrying plastic, it seems a bit shortsighted not to have a point of sale system that asks for one every single time. Whether or not customers believe it's okay is a debate for another time, but it seems to be an overall benefit to the people working there, so I can't really find many drawbacks to having it.
When it comes to the burritos, they're not the best in my opinion, but they're pretty high up there. The one advantage La Victoria has over some of the other burrito places in the area is that they serve breakfast. If you're looking for a delicious breakfast burrito, there's probably no better place in town than...
Read moreI’ve heard La Vic’s is a San Jose staple, so I checked them out.
Food - I ordered the super flour quesadilla with no guacamole and Mexican coke. They gave me plenty of their special orange sauce, which had a nice flavor and a good kick of spice. Some people really love their sauce, so you can actually buy bottles of it to take home. The quesadilla was very filling and tasted great with a perfect crispy tortilla. I will probably try it without pico de gallo next time because the tomato juice can sometimes make the meal a little extra moist.
They had a big menu with a good selection of options, including breakfast meals. They also had different agua Fresca flavors that seemed delicious.
Administration- The staff were pretty efficient taking orders and preparing food. If you don’t want to stand in line, you can also order from their electric kiosk.
Cleanliness- the entire restaurant looked clean and in proper order.
Ambiance - I’m visiting during the Spring and it’s already getting warm, therefore I appreciate the air conditioning and ceiling fans. They also had rock en espanol playing on the speakers in the background which was nice because it was loud enough to enjoy as background music while not distracting.
Indoor space - they have enough capacity for 77 customers indoors. They have 4 person high and low top tables throughout. The tables are moveable so they can probably accommodate larger groups.
Children - Good place to bring a child in a stroller because have a spacious indoor area.
Outdoor space -they are located at the corner of an intersection and offer plenty of outside seating space off the street.
Parking - there seemed to be plenty of parking for...
Read moreUsually this location is ok. Tonight not so much. I recieved poor customer service and no accountability. I called and the girl answered the phone "hello", I said "hello" and it was silent (it threw me off, I thought I called the wrong number. She said "can I help you" and I said "yes can I order food?". She proceeded to take my order and repeated back to me and gave me my order number. When my son returned with the food, it was wrong. I called her and let her know what was wrong. She told me she "understood differently" and I sent my son for the correction. Then I realized that there was more wrong. When I called someone else answered and asked me what was wrong. I heard her talking to someone else in spanish asking her what I ordered. She comes back on the line and repeats what was on the receipt (which is incorrect). I told her what I ordered and she says "the girls said thats not what your ordered". I was like "excuse me, she repeated it back to me". She said "well we need you to bring the order back so we can give you the right one". My son was already there. They refused to correct it without bringing back the wrong order. I went down there to exchange. When I went in no one said a word to me, just swapped out the food. Didn't even look at me. Not to mention the new order still...
