What is a Super Taco Asada? Well it's guac cheese, cilantro, carne asada on tortillas in a box, but the tacos are laid flat and it almost becomes unidentifiable when not picked up, but eaten like a flying saucer or caf (carne asada fries for those that don't know)
Hey San Jose, of all the Mexican food I've had in Norcal this is the first place that didn't make me regret it trying Mexican this far from the border. I mean after all the rule still applies that the further from the border you get the worse the Mexican food. I'd been let down by dozens of places within a 100 mile radius of San Francisco so I almost didn't come here, but it wasn't that far from where I was staying and it's rating to reviews ratio was still good and some of my fellow socal residents or transplants didn't hate it.
It's in a little bit of a seedy area and on the small side, no bathroom. It was pretty packed on a weekend, but the service was friendly and pretty quick. I got to try quite a few items as I was picking up for some family too.
The guac is a little less chunky than I prefer, good onion flavor, they use crema fresca which is really the only way to go. It's piled high, overflowing almost. The meat though was actually the only drawback. Salty, it detracted or rather took away from the flavor of the meat, or maybe lack of flavor. It wasn't the focal point here it's the super part. It makes for good portions.
Carnitas are not slow fried in lard, that's obvious. It's well seasoned and a good cut, but less than authentic. Al pastor is missing the pineapple so it's just ok. Still good flavor, but I was left wanting in that department.
Super Burrito with a few different meats is a solid choice. What is with everyone putting beans in their burrito's? it doesn't have to be eaten like at a home to be authentic. It's pretty large, but more of the chipotle vibe on this. I was tempted to order a California style burrito, but didn't want to offend people, which has happened places not to be mentioned or even reviews. Then I realized they don't even offer fries, so there goes that idea. Oh well.
It's got good qualities, things that make it stand out from basically anywhere around here, but doesn't stack up to even mediocre eating down south.
I don't come up here as often as I used to or as often as I should, but if I ever get a Mexican food craving I'll be doing some customizing now that I know what's good here...
Read moreI think a 4.5 or so rating makes sense for Taqueria Eduardo.
This place is not going to win any awards for interior design or for location. It is tucked into the corner of a rundown, three business, strip mall that faces the butt-end of a McDonalds. But the location is perfectly safe. Sure, I think a bit of Windex and a thorough scrubbing could do wonders for the place. The interior is also small. That said, I can’t really see any reason a person would want to eat at one of the handful of tables inside or in their car in the dimly lit parking lot outside.
The lady working the counter was professional, kind even. The guy working the grill--whose facial expression didn't change once while we were there--was gifted, putting together orders amazingly efficient movements that almost looked choreographed.
My friends and I ordered four burritos: a basic (pinto) bean and cheese, a regular vegetarian, a regular chorizo, and a carnitas burrito without rice. They all came with red sauce and several additional small containers of a nicely spiced pico. Wait time? Probably around five minutes. I personally think that the burritos I had were a touch better than the same ones I have ordered at La Vic. Another friend agreed. And they were slightly larger than the ones you might get at La Vic or Super Taq. As another reviewer noted, when you ask them to leave out something (like rice) they don’t make the burrito smaller . . . they just provide more of the other fillings. Nice touch.
The cost? Like all other places of this sort, I am sorta’ amazed that a burrito now costs over $10.00. But that’s the way things are these days. If you want to eat at a nice place, look elsewhere. But, if you want a filling meal to take with you, at a price point comparable to similar establishments, I’d...
Read moreThe food was pretty close to TERRIBLE! From the cook touching all the food with his hands (no gloves), flies everywhere (all over the uncovered food), very dirty spot, the rice was bland, the carne asada totally plain & flavorless, they wouldn't fry my tortillas to make them soft / crunchy for my super tacos, gave me stale chips (w/no salsa), the tortillas had a bad taste, and the beans were from a CAN! I am Mexican, so I know how the food is supposed to taste, and this was not it! I don't at all understand how this place received ANY of their good reviews I saw online, because the experience I had was so opposite of every good review I read. So disappointing, would not eat there again. Try Taqueria Los Pericos on W. Campbell Ave. (also in Campbell). *Puts this place to shame, and actually serves fresh chips & salsa for everyone, and the beans are actually homemade, and carne asada is usually on point every time, as you'd expect from a real authentic...
