The pizza here is to die for, honestly it is actual pizza. Most of the places in San Jose don't serve pizza, the other places serve semi melted piles of cheap pre-shredded cheese ontop of a doughy mess.

Last Round Tavern makes a thin pie, they get a nice crispy char on the bottom, always within seconds of being over cooked. They time the thing perfectly. The cheese is melted to where it expresses it's flavor beautifully, they seem to always time and layout toppings so the pizza doesn't drown in the moisture. The sauce is perfect.

Seriously probably the best pie you can get in downtown. I noticed when you do only half toppings on a a pie, they only charge you half price for those toppings. HOLY CRAP. What a nice concept. So now when my wife want to engineer some pineapple infested pie, I don't have to pay for a whole pie of pineapple. Thank god. Seriously knowing this now, we are gonna build some serious b@st@rd pies.

I have one observation, a few weeks ago we got a personal sized pizza and the crust / edges were very different than what you get when you order a large. So my advice is, if you want the best pie, get the large, and just take the rest home and freeze it. The ratio on the sizes below large were really really odd when it came to the dough. If you are going on a Dave Portnoy scale, these guys are a solid 8.5 on the large pie, and probably a 6.7 on the small.

Very similar to chicago tavern pie, super thin with the square slices.

I would love to see these guys attempt a south coast of boston bar pie, because I bet they could do a hell of a job on that as well.

Wife and I like to stop in here after a bike ride or late at night around 9pm and sneak a pie on the patio and watch the craziness that is santa clara street at night time.

Looking forward to coming on day at lunch time and trying their sandwiches. I bet they can make a...

In somewhat of a random sequence of events, I ended up at this place for a pizza party put on by the DOT. Don't ask...

The good news is the place was rolling out a large assortment of pizzas for the occasion, so I figured I would cram in a new review. Why not?

This location serves two styles of pizza, thin crust (which for some reason is called "tavern style") and pan. Apparently, they originally started by serving pan, but now the thin crust has become just as popular. For this occasion both were on the menu, so I tried them out.

The thin crust was good, and notably, they serve the small pepperoni, the same style as Mountain Mike's. If you're into that style of meat, but prefer a thin crust, I can definitely recommend this place with only one caveat.

Whenever a place makes a thin crust the pressure to pull the pizza at the right time is paramount. If they miss, the pizza can end up with some sections that are like cardboard, and the pizzas that I tried had a few hot spots.

The pan was good as well. It's similar in style to Roundtable's pan, but notably made from sourdough. The sourdough starter isn't that old yet, so the flavor was not overwhelmed, but you can tell it's there.

Overall, the place was a bit small, it seems like the kind of place you go when you intimately know the people you're with whom you're seated. I can see it as a good place to catch a game, although, I can't vouch for the drink prices, as no alcohol was served.

In the end, it's a solid 4 stars, at least...

I decided to try this place out with my co-worker, Martha, who's a regular here. As SJSU workers, we're always looking for places downtown to try out! She always raved about this place and recently, they started opening during lunch again. The menu looked beautiful! Everything looked delicious and it wasn't too overwhelming or underwhelming. That goes for the restaurant itself as well. A unique and well-designed spot downtown and easy access for campus goers. The owner, Caleb, is a SWEETHEART! He's always ready to answer any questions about the menu and I had a great experience for my first time. I got the Thursday lunch special, Chicken Parm and it was so delicious. Not too heavy on the sauce, neither the breading of the chicken or freshly baked bread hurt the roof of my mouth. Everything was cooked and assembled to perfection. The sandwich is HUGE too, definitely fit for 2 meals! Had a pepperoni pizza with spicy honey the next day for Martha's birthday celebration and THIS is my favorite type of pizza. Baked perfectly for the cheese to brown, thin crust, crispy pepperoni, yum!!!! Missing it already! Can't wait for a chicken or turkey caesar sandwich in the future, I'll be the...

A busy friendly place with an eclectic clientele. The thin crust pizzas (tavern style) are nicely cooked and offer a nice balance between the flavors of the dough and the toppings. My favorite so far is the Margherita (one of the best Margherita's in San Jose). It is topped with fresh basil leaves and the sauce is flavorful with hints of oregano and parmesan. The pizzas are cut into small squares which makes sharing them very easy. The Cubano is surprisingly tasty and I did find the Chorizo very good but a little greasy. The draft beers were mostly IPAs and I would have like to see a few pilsner choices. Prices are very fair. We shared a table with strangers and were delighted to hear their stories of their lives navigating the California tech world.
