Looking for COMFORT FOOD at a HOFBRÄU, but was met with SALAD GREENS. The best part of my meal was the RED VELVET CAKE. It was moist, soft and light with a mild cocoa taste. The expected 'tartness' was missing however. And the frosting, although rich and creamy, did not taste very much like cream cheese. The MASHED POTATOES (no gravy thanks) had been sitting out a bit long because the edges were a little dry. The RED CABBAGE, sautéed with VINEGAR was acceptable. The CORNED BEEF was ok. Tender, but not hot or warm. Thankfully, it was not fatty. I would have liked sweet ice tea, but the hofbrau's UNSWEET BREWED ICE TEA did not clash with my cabbage. The wheat DINNER ROLL was kinda dry. It was served with real butter. Fewer green salad-type options and more German potato staples and European-inspired vegetables are preferable. The staff are friendly. The patrons seem to skew older, most likely wanting to eat the way they did when they were younger: meat, 2 veg, and bread. That is how my parents fed me. -- -- -- -- -- The restaurant operates like a cafeteria. Line up at the head of the buffet. The meat carver and others will service you, in turn. Keep moving down the line until you reach the cashier. Take your tray of food to your table and enjoy.

I was introduced to Harry’s Hofbrau nearly two years ago when a friend invited me to join them for Thanksgiving dinner. I was surprised by the popularity of this gathering for when we pulled into the parking lot I could already see the end of the line. Once we followed the other diners inside the building I could see the line spread across the eatery before eventually winding down in front of a large buffet area where you collect a dining tray and plate and, with the help of kitchen staff wearing stylish hats and aprons, select the food items you desired. For a very reasonable price I received a plate piled high with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, choice of veggies, a roll, salad and dessert. So much food, in fact, I needed a take-away box and proceeded to munch the yummy food the day after Thanksgiving. I have gone back on a non-holiday - minus the long lines - and enjoyed another bountiful and tasty meal with a group of friends, which everyone raved over.

Didn't know what to expect at Harry's Hofbrau in San Leandro, but was pleasantly surprised by what we got! Whiile the decor and large, open hall is beer gardensque, there's nothing particular German about the food, served up cafeteria-style. Giant portions of meat— tasty tri-tip for me, though it was more of an Old Bay seasoning profile than Susie Q, and very moist turkey for Ben. They definitely excel at meats! But the classic Americana salads and side dishes were better-than-cateferia quality too. I was delighted to find a tasty green pea salad! The pumpkin cheesecake, though? SO GOOD. Super fluffy with a delicious swiss meringue buttercream and plenty of tartness to balance the richness. My only complaint, really, is dry rolls. Will keep Harry's Hofbrau in mind whenever I want a hearty, full meal and roomy, yet still cozy, space to go with it.

Love many of the finer details of this restaurant's execution. The walk up cafeteria style makes looking through some options and choosing from their easy to follow menu simple and the straightforward payment is great too. The interior and patio space are lovely in their lighting and decoration. The service was friendly and straightforward. The food was pretty good, I tried their tri tip special and liked the flavorful, savory meat served was an au jus on the top. The meal came with a roll, a side, and mashed potatoes, all of which were quite tasty. I am impressed by the portions, which from a price to quality perspective was great. Definitely will be coming back to try some of the other offerings available!

The food, the service, the atmosphere we're all superb! The restaurant was the most cleanest public eatery I have ever come across. The roast beef was more like prime rib, very tasty! We choose the Caesar salad, dinner roll , corn on the cob, mashed potatoes & gravy. Dinner for my husband and I, which included a drink and dessert was $36.00 for us both and well worth every penny. Plenty of parking, handicap entry if needed. The menu includes full dinners, sandwiches, senior & child servings. Desserts range from jello, ice cream, cheese cake, pie ala mode, short cake, and giant cookies. You can dine in or take out. My family will for sure revisit this establishment again. Highly recommend this place.

This place has cafeteria style dining with hot sandwiches, potatoes, kraut, and a few sausages. They also had some non-traditional german food like enchiladas. The service was pretty quick, they move the line along and each station will fix you up with a main or a side. There is a separate bar area for alcoholic beverages. All things said, this was not what I expected when a friend said we were going to "hofbrau". I was expecting Hofbrauhaus. But after that disappointment faded, Harry's Hofbrau is a simple family restaurant with a lot of midwest/German comfort food. Stop by if you want a no-frills sandwich or polish sausage.
