BBQ lovers rejoice Gold Land is of those places where lines should be forming around to block but they aren't just yet. They're truly operating on a different and much higher standard of excellence than all the rest you'll pass in Downtown. I've been to them all. I'm passionate about BBQ and I'd say this is the new benchmark for the entire county. I visited twice in about a week and what makes this place next level is how much attention they put on the elemental things that matter most: The quality of the meat, the slow cooking/smoking techniques, the rub, the flavor, the way the sides correctly pair with the meats. It is all there and you're going to know what I'm talking about moment you taste it. The pork ribs are fall off the bone tender, beautifully smoked and served dry with choice of sauces. The savory smoky flavor of the ribs pairs like absolute magic with the acidity of the coleslaw. This place is no frill, all thrill. Best of all, the prices are competitive for SLO. Seriously, about on par with other BBQ places in town but what you get is an order of magnitude better.
Gold Land what Lightning Joe's Guitar Heaven (in AG) is. A place that would be competitive and at home in Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles or New York but instead it stands like an outlier in SLO, competing against places that are hundreds if not thousands of miles away, refusing to accept mediocrity.
PS -- If you're passionate about BBQ but the crew you're with is not, please know there is more than a few great establishments in the...
Read moreGlad this exists in SLO because there’s just something special about low and slow BBQ. Gold Land BBQ seems inspired by a lot of techniques and flavors from the south but blends in “California” very nicely. All the ingredients tasted fresh and with great quality. The meats and sides all seemed meticulously thought out. There was something different with each bite that didn’t seem “traditional” but the flavors all balanced well together making you want to eat more to figure out what. The dealer’s choice was a great way to try and sample nearly everything. Feeds 3-4 adults well or maybe up to 5-6 if there’s kids or folks less hungry. Give this place a try, go to it often. Seems great for lunch or take out for dinner. We need to support places like Gold Land BBQ if we want to keep delicious food like...
