Homestead Motel — Hotel in San Luis Obispo

Not only are the rooms DESPERATELY in need of updating, they aren't cleaned properly between guests and then the guy in the office will try to keep your deposit to add insult to injury, claiming he needs it to get the carpets deep cleaned. I was wearing pale grey socks the first night, and they were black with dirt when I went to bed. Gross! The paint has clearly been gone over dozens of times; it's thick, peeling, and bubbled. The toilet is straight out the a kindergarten restroom from the 70s, ran nonstop an the outlet above the sink (directly above the sink!) had exposed wiring. The shower is the size of a litter box and filthy with mildew. To have the manager claim he needed to keep the deposit and then, when informed that I took pictures of the room (having been ripped off in this scam before), he suddenly changed his mind and returned my deposit while telling me not to come back... AS IF I EVER WOULD! If there'd been any available rooms anywhere near it, I would have left as soon as I went...

So I worked at a hospital the night before and just needed a place to sleep during the day. The owner charged me for the previous night and the same day. I asked for an later check out and he said ok but would he extra that would be charged up front. I was ok with that.

Now the red flags. There were signs saying no refunds after check in. Big red flag. Didn't think much of it and had slept in hostels, friends couches, and evem my car before. Point is i have a very low bar when it comes to sleep.

The minute i walk in it reeks of smoke, the bed linen are dirty, and the shower had used dirty washclothes on the floor. I just walked out and checked out within 15 minutes. I didnt even argue for the refund and just said keep my money, not even worth arguing over to stay. Offered another room, but never offered a refund or to reimburse me for the extra money i paid for "late check out". I honestly was in such shock i didnt care about the money.

My wife and sister was staying there when I arrived do I went over to the office to include myself and pay the extra for me being there. I gave the owner my military ID and his whole demeanor changed. He told me that I can cook for my family as long as it was outside. When I started cooking our dinner he came out of the office and started yelling at me and not only scaring my wife and sister, everyone came out and watched him flip out. After he walked away, I was told that everyone cooks outside by my neighbor and he didn't understand why he flipped out. The place had holes in the walls and doors plus it had carpet that smelled very much like mold and that would probably explain why we all got sick that week. The bathroom had mold in the shower and the whole place smelled like rotten milk.
