Los Mexas — Restaurant in San Luis Obispo

So this hidden gem is easy to miss because it's located inside a corner market / liquor store.

As soon as I finished placing my order for four tacos the maiz was pressed out and the tortillas were on the grill.

Game on! That is a great start to this adventure.

I selected a carne asada, al pastor, birria and shrimp tacos. In very short time my order was completed and ready to take home.

The aroma of these tacos in my car almost convinced me to pull over and chow down. My mouth watered all the way home. Each of the tacos was tasty and well-proportioned. A quick heads up that each taco includes rice and beans inside. Let me tell you the rice and beans were a great addition.

I now have a favorite Mexican spot in SLO. Is it too soon to...

Man oh man - this place is what San Luis Obispo is missing. We’ve been here 4 times since Los Mexas has opened and every time it has delivered. This is such a gem of a restaurant and I only hope it can stay this consistent in terms of quality and offerings.

I’ve had the breakfast burrito twice (bacon and sausage) and the burritos twice (tinga and birria). Everything has been amazing and so fresh like their motto. The ratio of ingredients is perfect and the seasoning/spice of the meat and salsa has been perfect.

It isn’t like any other restaurant in town - and frankly you don’t want it to be.

I have lived in Slo for nearing 5 years, and while I have loved my time here, there has been one thing ailing me. That is a dire lack of good Mexican food. It befuddled me, as I couldn’t imagine a California town lacking good Mexican food. Well I can rest assured now!!!

Los Mexas is incredible the only thing better than the service is the food! Meat is tender and flavorful. Salsa is packed with flavor with a kick too! The home made tortillas are such a great touch.
