Food here is amazing. We planned an entire day trip to Austin around the ability to come eat their pizza again (making our 3rd time there, in about 5 yrs; we come over from the Houston area).
Our first time there, I'd have given them 5 stars, but this time and the time before, the service left a LOT to be desired. We had one server who was very helpful, I did not catch her name, but we'd originally sat at a small table for 4, and were kind of scanning the area for a spot big enough for our family of 5. She saw us, cleared a larger table for us, etc. - super helpful. This was on Monday night, 3/13, around 8 pm or so.
Unfortunately, that's where the helpful attitude ended. I asked another employee for a menu and was simply told "it's up there" with a gesture towards the counter where you order these days. I couldn't access the counter, as the cashiers were talking to 2 gentlemen just standing and chatting with them, so it was a while before we could sit down with a menu.
When we ordered, the cashier mentioned jalapenos on a pizza we'd picked, though none were listed on the menu. We asked about it, and said please have them leave it off, if they are on there. She said no, she must have been wrong, no jalapenos. Sure enough, pizza came with jalapenos. Fortunately they were mild, and we just picked them off.
Aside from bringing out the pizza, no one stopped at our table to check on us at any point, despite us having left a 20% tip when we paid (you order/pay at the counter before eating). On the other hand, the table next to us had constant attention -- really the only table in the place getting any kind of service at all. Brought their bar drinks out. Offered to remake them. Stopped to ask how the food was. Came out to chat and talk to them several times. Etc.
I don't know why the difference, and maybe we'd not have noticed the lack of service if not for the excessive great service next to us, as I suppose an "order at the counter" place doesn't normally have table service, but it left a bad taste in our mouth regardless.
The pizza is still phenomenal, and we'll certainly be back again sometime, but will probably tip less next time and know not to expect anything in way of any kind of service or even pleasant attitude from the...
Read moreBoth Austin (if memory serves, he is a manager there) and Bruce (the owner) were extremely helpful as me and my bride planned for Pie Society to cater our wedding of 76 individuals!
Austin was very friendly and helpful in ensuring we both could do a proper "taste test" at Pie Society, and Bruce helped us coordinate everything for the big day!
Though we didn't get a chance to meet any of those who delivered our pizza the day of our wedding, the food was delivered on time and was warmed well. For those who have eaten here before, you know how extremely tasty their selection is! We went with The Balance of Power, The Handshake, The Holy Grail, The Garden of Eden, Cheese Pizza, and their salads.
In addition, Pie Society was able to accommodate some super tricky dietary restrictions for several of our guests including both gluten and dairy-free options, which was very helpful for us to ensure our guests felt especially welcomed.
And to top it all off, we were able to beat another venue which included catering by ~$3 per individual which as any wedding-planning couple knows adds up fast!
We would highly recommend considering Pie Society as a choice caterer for anyone's next event--wedding or otherwise (and we'll be back as a married couple to enjoy pizza for a nice, casual date night in...
Read moreVery impressed - from the moment we walked in, awesome atmosphere especially the preparation area which was a sight for the senses, the aroma, friendly engaged employees and the dough being tossed acrobatically in the air.
We made a custom order and it was delivered exactly as ordered, hot and delicious. I indulged in a recommended seasonal mixed drink "Smashing Pumkins" which was really good and Mr. Nautti had a very cold bottled Dos Equis.
The place was packed on a Saturday evening, outside dining available too. We sat inside where there are various seating options, barside, high tops, tables and tables for large groups. Order at the counter/bar which is well stocked for mixed drinks and draft, craft beers. Really terrific concept all-around.
The most impressive is the "dance" being performed by each and every employee - we counted 8 employees at various stations busting their humps and delivering in style. Make sure you take time to watch how the pizzas are made - impressive.
We went out of our way on our first visit here - we were driving back to ATX - our internet search was for "pizza and mixed drinks" - so very glad we found Pie Society, a locally owned small business. We'll...
