Belly Deli — Restaurant in San Rafael

Went a few days ago to try their Sunrise Breakfast Sando as they have taken over the former Bruno's Deli location. Nice improvements overall, some new additions to the marketplace & YES the brekkie sando was delicious! A really great place to eat your meal, grab a drink from the fridges & hang. Super clean, thoughtful items to take home & top quality ingredients from what I can tell. The owner / GM thanked me on the way out with a sincere query of how I enjoyed the experience. We chatted for a minute & she told me the history of the Belly Deli as she grew up in San Rafael. Very interesting & as they are connected with Oliver's Pizza I can safely say I'm excited to return for some lunch sandos! I have given this place two chances and they blew them both. Each visit customer services was extremely lacking - seriously to everyone working there please do us all a favor and get a job you like. Both times the wait was very long for a simple sandwich - both times no line - no online orders just employees with no sense of urgency or willingness to actually be of service. This time they missed my order, again not busy, and instead of apologizing or updating me about the additional wait time they just laughed nervously hoping I won’t ask. I've given Belly multiple chances, at least four times, but each visit has been a letdown.

The sandwiches are consistently underwhelming with skimpy fillings, soggy bread, and a lack of care in how they are put together. For the premium prices they charge, the quality just is not there. I ordered a gluten free sandwich for my partner, and at over twenty dollars, it was such a disappointment she ended up tossing it in the trash.

I really was rooting for this place, especially given the turnover of businesses in this location, but it is clear the owner does not know how to run a deli. I predict, like the restaurants that came before it, Belly Deli will soon be out...
