After shopping around in San Ramon, my mother was wanting something different for food. She asked if I would be willing to have Nepalese food. Being up for the challenge, we found 'The Gurkha Kitchen', and it just so happens to be at a location that we are familiar with.
Going in for a late lunch, we were warmly greeted by the staff. Looking at the menu it was an easy choice; I wanted the Thakali Thali Chicken, and mom wanted something a lil' more familiar and got Butter Chicken & Garlic Naan.
During the wait, we were informed that there was free tea and to help ourselves. We definitely took advantage of the tea, and enjoyed many cups.
Our food came out, and the server was kind enough to explain to us how to eat the Thakali Thali. She also informed us of the free refills to the sides of the Thakali Thali.
The flavors were amazing and really hit the spot. The butter chicken went superbly with the naan, and mixing the Thakali Thali all together was fantastic.
Packing up the left overs, we were thinking about how we can bring friends and family back in the future.
The place is a total find, and would recommend going. Don't be afraid to ask the staff about the food and culture. We got a great explanation while enjoying the...
Read moreWhat a gem! This area has been in need of a restaurant like this. They have Indian, Nepali & Indo-Chinese dishes on the menu, which gives you a wide range of tasty options that you don't always see on the same menu.
Vegetarian & Vegans, rejoice. There is SO MUCH you can eat here & it's all clearly labeled. There's even jackfruit curry.
Service was kind, helpful, & fast. The food comes out looking beautiful & tasting even better. Generous portions, got 3 meals out of one entree & side of rice. Naan is fluffy & light. They also have FREE Chai for dine-in guests, which is really generous & tasty. Lots of momos & pakora on the menu, as well as noodle dishes & clay oven entrees with meat and veg options.
Inside is clean & well maintained with a beautiful mural of Mount Everest. Relaxing music, lovely Buddhist shrine at the front of the shop. Don't sleep on this place -- it's a treasure.
Priced really modestly for the quality they serve. Definitely a place I'll come back to explore more...
Read moreThe Gurkha Kitchen is a new addition to the list of Indian restaurants in the trivalley area. I went there with my family and kids and ordered Veg momos, Veg Chowmein, Chili Paneer, Garlic Naan, and Paneer Shimla Mirch. I would rate the food 3 on 5 for the following reasons. Chili Paneer was extremely spicy. Please avoid it if u can't take the heat. Our tongue was almost on fire. Paneer Shimla mirch was Paneer Tikka Masala with Capsicum added to it. Nevertheless, the taste was good. Chowmein was decent that kids could eat with good portion size. Garlic Naan was indeed very good, soft and thin. Momos was pretty tasty, too. They have free chai for chai lovers. With respect to the ambiance , it almost feels like a fast food restaurant the moment u enter. They have a lot of take out orders and hence it took some time for them to deliver our food. However, the staff is extremely hospitable and friendly. My review is based on...
