My wife and I have been talking about going to Fisherman View for a couple of years now. We've heard and read fantastic reviews about this restaurant. I gave a $175 gift certificate to my employer as a Christmas gift once based on the reviews of this very popular establishment. The location is great right on the Canal with a marina full of boats right next door. The restaurant is on the second floor with windows from end to end offering a wonderful view of the canal. This is a very casual place which we weren't expecting, there were plenty of children and the room was loud. One of the main reasons we were here was to try the sushi. We both ordered the clam chowder and thought it was good, it was thick, flavorful, and had a good amount of clams in it. On a scale of 1 -10, it was a 7, something we could eat again and again. For the sushi, I had the Spicy Tuna Avacado Roll special and my wife had the Spider Roll. This was the least spectacular part of the meal, while they looked spectacular, my wife thought hers smelled fishy which turned her off and I thought mine and hers just didn't have the flavor and punch of a good sushi roll. They were a bit bland. (6.5) Next we had the Char Grilled Spanish Octopus. They both were overcooked, they were dry. My wife ate one bite and was done with it. While it wasn't that horrible to me, I ate mine and hers, but still, it wasn't all that good and I couldn't see wasting it. (5) lastly I had the Whole Jonah Crab meal with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. Wow!!! 4 big crabs, lots of legs, and a meat hunt in the bodies. This was fun, delicious, and messy. The corn was fine, and the mashed potatoes were a bit dry but I just poured some of the melted butter that was in a cup, that came with the crabs and mixed it in, and made them creamy. This I would come here for again! (8.5) Drinks: Mango Ginger Painkiller. She loved it, she said it was strong but delicious. (9) I drink Don Julio Blanco on the rocks so that's the same everywhere. (9.5). Overall we'd say average, we were expecting more. Now we know it's very casual. When you're expecting more refined and you step into casual unexpectedly it caught us off guard. We love and live casual here on the Cape but for some reason, we had an upscale vibe before arriving. We will not be returning for Sushi or Octopus but those Crabs! Yum! The menu is extensive and the service is outstanding. Making the 45-minute ride from Orleans to give it a try again? As I said, the menu is extensive and there appear to be many great options for us to explore. Overall we were slightly disappointed mostly because the reviews and expectations...
Read moreVisited Sandwich, MA for a few days, and was excited to try out the fresh seafood! A quick Google search for highly recommended seafood restaurants rendered Fishermen’s View Seafood Market & Restaurant. Tried to make a dinner reservation for a Monday night, but it was booked. We settled for a lunch reservation on a Tuesday, which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip!
Upon arrival, we were quickly seated in the porch area just off the side of their dining room. The large, open sliding doors provided us with fresh air and a beautiful view of the Cape Cod Canal.
To start, I ordered a Zero Proof Painkiller mocktail (coconut, mango, ginger, and nutmeg). My only complaint is that it went down too easily and too quickly. Fortunately, their seasonal cocktails and beer menu was aplenty, so I could have ordered something else if I wanted to!
After scanning the menu and reading online reviews, the Crispy Dragon roll quickly caught my attention. My appetite stirred as I fancied the dragon roll, with its crispy shrimp tempura and tempura flakes, refreshing cucumber, fresh caught spicy tuna, crunchy fried onions, spicy mayo, and eel sauce…but at the last minute, I changed my mind and went with the Tuna Poke Bowl. (There appeared to be more tuna in the poke bowl, plus edamame…satisfying my protein requirements, lol!) The presentation was a beautiful rainbow of edamame, seaweed salad, mango, carrot, strawberry, and tuna over white rice. My husband opted for the lobster, which came with corn-on-the-cob, red potato salad, and a much-needed bib. As expected, the food was tasty and fresh!
Looking forward to another trip to Fishermen’s View to try more of their fresh seafood plates (perhaps the Crispy Dragon Roll) and mocktails. In addition to the food and drink, we highly recommend this place as the views, the service, and the menu...
Read moreSome water view restaurants feel entitled to some privileges because of their location. And that is good if those are positive. Indeed the view is excellent. The food was good. Prices were on the higher side, typical Cape Cod. But atmosphere is not just the view, such as the canal or the decor but also what the people around you convey and radiate. The service? Here are some examples to judge for yourself. We like to sit outside but are sun sensitive (history of melanoma) so we asked to be seated at one of the four tables available in the shady area. The servers refused and the manager also refused to accommodate us. He claimed "The server of this table will call to work at 3:30 (it was 2:45 then and there were many servers all around), "don't worry" he tried to assure us, "sun is in and out (of the clouds)"! The extra sunscreen lotion was much more assuring. We should have left then and there. Regrets. Our sever with a nonchalant attitude visited us twice: to take the order and to collect the bill, or the tip, if you will! And thought that a cursory "how was the food" will suffice to collect 20-25% service. We still pay the old fashion based on quality of service. Three times we asked for mustard, each time a different server--remember the server allocated to us disappeared--to no avail until I myself went to the kitchen to collect it. A plate's lip was broken and we encountered raised eyebrows when asking it to be replaced. We forego asking for the heavily leaking soy sauce bottle. We left as soon as we finished eating and wondered what could make a potentially peaceful and remarkably beautiful place just an eatery not worthy of the name restaurant. We will take advantage of the many couches along the canal to enjoy the quite and...
