In November 2017, I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, a chronic form of blood and bone marrow cancer for which there is no cure or remission. As many cancer patients know, I quickly lost my appetite and couldn’t tolerate eating anything other than my favorite soups and salads from Zupas (Quarry Bend, Sandy, Utah location). In fact after eating at Zupas nearly daily for over a year, I had the opportunity to meet one of the owners of Zupas. I told him my story and how I felt that Zupas fresh fruit and vegetable salads were definitely making a difference in my cancer battle. At that time, he told me if the community could help me by giving me a discount so I could continue to eat there daily, that he would be honored to help me fight this disease. Over the past year, everyone has been so incredibly nice and helped to support my fight against this deadly disease. Receiving a discount on my daily food order has enabled me to continue to afford to purchase my meals at Zupas on a daily basis and order extra for Sunday’s since they are closed on the Sabbath. I have saved so many notes of support and encouragement from the employees and the management and I want everyone at Zupas, especially those who take time to write me notes of support to know how much your support is helping me to fight this deadly disease. As a former Police Officer, I was accustomed to helping the public and never expecting anything in return so, at this stage of my disease, to have my local business help me, even to save just a few dollars weekly so I can afford to continue this fight, means the world to me. I’ve always believed that when we have an opportunity to help someone that we should see it as a true blessing. I’m so thankful for this wonderful blessing and want to thank everyone at Zupas, Brie, Illida, Zach, Roger, Brett, Sidney, and everyone at this location. Thank you everyone for helping me to fight this disease. I was recently told I was going to lose my discount given to me a year ago because of a turnover in employees. I’ve tried calling the main management to talk to them about losing this discount which has made such a difference in my life but, I haven’t heard back from anyone yet. I’m hoping and praying that I don’t lose my discount because, I would lose my ability to eat there daily due to paying full cost on a Police Officer retirement but, even if I do lose the discount, I want Zupas to know how much your support has meant to me, your notes of encouragement and support, your inquiries about my health, all of this is appreciated even if the discount is taken away from me. I’ll continue to try and eat at Zupas when I can but, it won’t be my daily nourishment which I have depended on for the past 2 years. Either way, thank you to my local business, Zupas, for helping me to fight the fight....
Read moreThe people were nice, the atmosphere is a little shallow, but the place is clean and welcoming. I could not speak ill of this specific Zupa's or the people who work here . . .
The spoons are ridiculously deep. Soup spoons are WIDE to hold more soup, not deep. I seriously cannot push my top lip to the bottom of my spoon (and I have big lips for a white guy). I know it seems like a petty complaint, but stick with me.
I have a mustache. This means I would get soup all over my mustache in my vain attempts to get the soup in my mouth. I would either have to suck the soup out of my mustache like a cave troll or wipe it off with a napkin, effectively wasting about half of my soup. This leaves three options:
But it gets worse. I have a child who mostly manages it, but I also have a two year old that we have to feed like an infant because she could not possibly manage this behemoth of a spoon (nevermind that they had no kids-ware alternative. She can usually feed herself, but not soup at Zupa's. What's worse is we now have to feed her with this stupidly designed spoon. Each and every bite would have dripped down her front had we not been there with a napkin.
Whoever designed that spoon should be fired. But enough about the spoon.
The food at Zupa's (and this is a complaint against corporate, not this location) is extremely bland. My krab avocado melt was so bland that my CELERY had the most flavor of any ingredient in that sandwich. The tomato basil is ok, but I've had tomato soup from a can with more flavor. And there might as well have been no basil in my soup!! The only safe option is to dip an ultimate grilled cheese in tomato soup. Then you MIGHT get some flavor in your mouth. Maybe. Neither my wife nor my oldest could finish their food. It was like eating cardboard. The baby ate like babies do, but she definitely gave us some weird looks after each of her first few bites.
Again, the people here were everything you could hope for in customer service. The place was cleaner than you would expect from a dinner rush. It's sad that incompetent corporate decisions ruined the rating of an otherwise fantastic eating establishment. This would have been a 1-star, but the good people here deserve...
Read moreI have never had an issue with this location until today! I had an online order for pick up at 3:30. I arrived right on time and my order wasn’t ready. No biggie! I was happy to wait. There were only two female employees working the front of the restaurant and not a single person eating in the dining area. And 3 young teenagers in the line ordering food. Not busy at all! One of the girls started bagging my food and got about half way done and came to me and said “I’m sorry, I’ll finish your order when I can. I need to help her (the other employee).” At this point I had been waiting 10 minutes past my pick up time. She also informed me that they were “out of tomato basil soup for the day” it was 3:30??? I’m sure tomato basil is one of their most popular soups! I am sure lots of people during the dinner rush were going to be just as disappointed as me. I had to then make a last minute decision on a different soup. Again, no biggie, just a bummer. The last thing she needed to do for my order was make 2 Mini Melted Chocolate Strawberry cups. She helped restock some things for the other employee who was making sandwiches for the other people in line. She then ran to the back and brought up 3 cases of strawberries and started doing the rest of my order. I don’t believe the strawberries were even washed… She was pulling them straight out of the container they come in. To top it off, she started chopping the tops of the strawberries with a knife they used to cut sandwiches and instead of cutting the strawberries on a cutting board she cut them up right on the counter. I don’t believe this is sanitary! I was extremely disappointed considering these MINI strawberry cups are $9.00 each. The least I can expect is that the fruit is washed and prepped properly. I left and chose to not eat the dessert. The employee was apologetic and I appreciated that but they clearly needed more help and more training. I won’t be returning to...
