I used to LOVE to come here, their food was always so good and reasonably priced. They gave big portions. I would get the large combo, vegetarian style (no meat). Always had enough to take home and have 2 more full meals. This last time, it was so skimpy, they raised the price, the service was terrible, kept trying to get the waiter's attention, he was absolutely ignoring me. I normally tip really good, but this time I left one penny. The burrito that normally comes with it is a full size burrito, filled nicely with beans and cheese. This was a mini tortilla burrito with a skiff of beans, enough to hold the mini tortilla together. The cheese enchilada was the same way, barely any cheese, tiny. A tiny amount of beans and rice instead of the normal amount. They forgot my tostada and taco completely. When I talked to the manager, he was so incredibly rude. I showed him how little amount of food I got and that I had not gotten my tostada or taco, he shrugged and walked away. I thought maybe he was going back to the kitchen to get it, but went to another table and started chatting it up with the customers, laughing, ignoring me. He obviously did not care he was losing a loyal and regular customer. I will NEVER go there again, which is sad, cause our entire family would go a few times a year and I would go there about 3-4 times a month. They have lost our business forever. When I finally gave up, and I had eaten all my food, the check was still not there, the waiter was avoiding my table, I went to the front to pay. My bill was $17. for NOTHING... I was super mad!! Tried to talk to manager again, but he just walked into the back.... I was being treated like a leper!! I went ahead and paid it, but like I said, they have lost us as loyal, regular customers FOREVER!! Still trying to find a Mexican restaurant that is as yummy as them with a great value.... still looking, would love...
Read moreI don't mean to be offensive, but this is some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. I ordered a large combo plate to sample as much as I could. It had a cheese enchilada, burrito, tostada, taco, rice and beans, chicken, and a tortilla.
The cheese enchilada was ok. It had cheese in it, and had an earthy red sauce.
The burrito was terrible. It was basically a loosely folded cylinder dripping and oozing bland, flavorless pink sauce that served only to whet the tortilla and cover up overcooked chicken. It was so loosely packed, it might as well have not been on the plate.
The taco was filled with what I could call sloppy joe mix, mashed into a consistency matching mud. It was very unexciting and the texture of the filling totally did not stand up to the texture of the crunchy taco shell. It was also covered with so much lettuce that it could have been a side salad.
The tostada was basically a flat fried tortilla covered with the same taco filling goop, cheese and lettuce. The burrito was served on top of the toastada in a way that j didn't even know the tostada was there at first, and all the lettuce became a soggy and wilted mess.
The rice was ho-hum, uncle bens quality Mexican rice. The beans were acceptable, but nothing to write home about.
The rice and beans had more of the bland overcooked chicken and flavorless pink sauce on it.
The food I had here is what I imagine a high school cafeteria manager or rest home chef would come up with for a Mexican Night menu. It was absolutely flavorless, swimming in sauce, and just not even worth trying. I would rather have had a Tina's...

Compared to other Utah Mexican restaurants, La Fountain is probably best described as "average." Unfortunately, that's a pretty low bar. It's possible that it was just the cook that day, but judging by how busy it was (usually a good indicator, especially on Sunday), most people feel similarly about it. My wife and I would rather go someone else
The good: portions are good. If you have friends who don't like spicy, it's probably a good place to take them. Service was Ok. Basically, everything was "OK."
The bad: while nothing was too spicy, nothing had much flavor, either. The chili verde, for example, tasted like they had fries up a pork chop and thrown it in the sauce about 5 minutes before we got there, rather than slowly stewing for hours. I think my smothered burritos would have had more flavor if they had been made with paste.
The ugly: a very popular local Mexican place was recently shut down by the health department, in part because they stacked bowls of chips on each other, and then the stacks of chips-in-a-bowl were sitting outside of the food prep area. This means that your chips were probably getting touched by the bottom of the bowl above them. We observed that during our visit...
