During my weekend trip to Sanford for the 18th Annual Hurricane Party Music Festival, I needed a reliable spot to get some work done in the mornings, and Foxtail Coffee Company became my go-to. Overall, it was a solid experience, earning a respectable four stars, but with a few tweaks, this place could easily become a five-star destination.
My first visit involved their egg, ham & cheese croissant, which was a pleasant surprise – definitely better than average and quite good. The real winner, however, was the Cafe Con Leche. It was so well-made that I ended up ordering it on all three of my visits! The second time around was just for the coffee, and it didn't disappoint.
Unfortunately, my third visit revealed a couple of areas for improvement. I was hoping for another croissant, but they were out. I then inquired about the turkey, ham & cheese on a pretzel roll, only to find that was unavailable as well. I settled on the Ham & Swiss on a sub roll, which, while better than expected, felt a bit underwhelming for the price. At $8, I was expecting more than a single piece of ham on each side of the roll. It felt more like a glorified grilled cheese with a hint of ham. Perhaps a name change to reflect this might be more accurate.
Adding to this, some online reviews mentioned a lack of a welcoming greeting upon entering, and I unfortunately experienced this myself. On two occasions, even when it wasn't particularly busy, I stood at the counter for a moment without any acknowledgment. A simple "Good morning!" or "Welcome in!" can make a significant difference in the initial impression.
A small but impactful suggestion regarding their out-of-stock food items: they have a laminated menu displayed. Crossing off items that are unavailable for the day would be incredibly helpful. It would prevent the disappointment of getting your hopes up for a specific item only to find it's not an option. Despite these minor drawbacks, Foxtail Coffee Company truly shines in its atmosphere. The lighting is fantastic, creating a wonderfully cozy and productive ambiance. As someone needing to work, I greatly appreciated the abundance of accessible power outlets. The outdoor seating area looked inviting, and the people-watching opportunities from the windows were great. The overall interior decorations also contribute significantly to the pleasant vibe of the space.
Ultimately, I would definitely return to Foxtail Coffee Company on future visits to Sanford. The Cafe Con Leche alone is a strong draw. However, addressing the initial greeting of guests and implementing a system for indicating unavailable menu items could elevate this already enjoyable coffee shop to a truly exceptional five-star experience. With a little TLC in these areas, Foxtail has the potential to be a real...
Read moreIn what might be termed a small food hall, Foxtail Coffee has opened a quaint little shop in increasingly on-trend Sanford Florida that features its coffees, as well as Kelly’s Ice Cream and a taproom for Ravenous Pig Brewing Company of Winter Park. And it is the perfect blend of snack and beverage.
While I am a huge fan of Foxtail, and frequently buy it by the cup and by the bag, I chose the Five Points IPA (6.8% ABV; 57 IBU), a core beer on their menu. Wife chose a vanilla latte with oat milk. It’s nice to have choices beyond alcohol when you’ve had more than you want. That knife cuts the other way when you just need a cold one! We like the vibe that Foxtail has created here. In a town with five breweries, putting in a tap room may be perceived as a gutsy move, especially given that there are several other great establishments serving a wide variety of other peoples’ beers as well. But Sanford has proved to be able absorb all of these, and continue to become a destination city for dining and drinking. My only quibble is that, unlike at a brewery where you open a tab, you have to get back in line to order a second round. This little venue was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait....
Read moreAfter work today, my boyfriend and I decided to eat out. We had dinner, and then started craving something sweet. While exploring Sanford, we stumbled upon this spot . I was in the mood for ice cream, and he wanted coffee, so this place immediately caught our attention. We noticed there was a long line outside, which told us right away that it had to be good.
We both ended up ordering an affogato the perfect combo of a shot of espresso poured over a scoop of ice cream. I chose the banana pudding flavor and OMG… it was so delicious. Creamy, flavorful, not overly sweet just perfect. And the espresso? Absolutely amazing. Rich, bold, and smooth you could tell they take their coffee seriously.
The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the service was great. I also loved the atmosphere cozy, beautifully decorated with a rustic touch and lots of greenery that made the space feel vibrant and calm at the same time. The whole experience was a delight — from the flavors to the vibe to the service. 100% recommended! If you ever pass by, don’t think twice this place is worth the visit. Prices were also fair for...
