I decided to explore and find a new used book store this weekend and stumbled upon Mayaâs Books. Itâs a cozy, ~1700sqft loft style book and music store right in the heart of downtown in SanfordâYou can walk to the riverfront from it! I briefly spoke with the owner upon walking in and she seemed super friendly and welcoming. The shop had a ton of fiction but I was specifically looking for psychology/self help/personal and professional development, which is the only reason for the 4 star review. I had 2-3 small shelves to sift through, which isnât much. However, as I was on my way to check out with only 1 book in hand versus the normal 3, And I spotted a book that someone had just sold to her and that hadnât been priced or put on the floor yet. âBarking Up the Wrong Treeâ by Eric Barkerâitâs been two days and I havenât been able to put this one down! The last minute surprise definitely turned my experience into a more positive one. Ultimately, Iâm thankful I stopped in and look forward to visiting again when Iâm in the area!
Also, I will note that her prices are super competitive and seemingly better than the other used book stores in the...
Read moreA cute little book nook in the Sanford downtown historic district. They are right next door to Wondermade and across the street from Willow Tree. Out front they had some sale and discounted books. Inside they have clearly marked sections with used books galore. They were a bit lacking in the kid books area, but no biggie, they have plenty of other stuff.
Upstairs is the record area. They have tons of used music records and some really fun finds. Be sure to head up the stairs and just take a look through all the offerings.
Staff didn't talk to us until my husband went up to purchase some books. They wouldn't price match on some books that we found on Amazon for a little less, so we skipped buying a couple of items, but he still found a half dozen hard backs for a good deal!
Overall: A Cute book nook in historic Sanford. Stop in, look at books...

Didn't buy any books during this last visit because it was a rainy afternoon and just wanted to walk the store and get to a late lunch. But my recent purchase was a unique reminder of my younger days when I would spend hours reading Little Lulu in bed. As I began to go through the pages of this special edition it was refreshing to see how cartoons were so different back in the day and Lulu getting a spanking from her mom was the most natural thing in the world! The only star missing for this eclectic shop is just because the interior is usually too warm and muggy. Anything you want to bring to your reading universe you might...
