We've been to this place three times. The most recent visit was on the day of their grand opening at the new location. For the sake of fairness I've included the review of my previous two visits below the most recent one.
They definitely seemed overwhelmed during their grand reopening day. The food was no where near to the quality we'd gotten used to and the main reason we visited them again. We ordered the same entrees as we had on the previous couple of occasions. The bone soup was served cold and we'd to request them to re-heat it. The mutton curry was not seasoned well and the parathas were thickly layered. Our server was polite and accepted that they were not at their best and gave us a 50% discount on our dinner bill. We ended up not having a good dine in experience at their new location. Review for previous visit (5 stars) Exceptional chettinad cuisine. If you want to taste it go here. We've been here a couple times so far. We've had: Appum with mutton keema: Exceptional Ghee roast masala dosa: Great flavour. Crisp. Cooked with generous ghee Paper roast with masala: Great flavor again. Crisp. The masala(potato) was had the right amount of spices and was mashed to perfection (not too much. not too little) Masala chai: Indded had the masala. Mutton bone broth: Soul food. If you miss your mutton soup at home this is the one to go for. We ended up ordering more of this. The chef was generous enough to give additional meat pieces for our second helping. Iddiappam with mutton: This was our first time having this entree. It did not disappoint but left us craving for more next time. Chicken lollipop: Well cooked tasted as expected. Paratha: Extremely tasty. Took us back to India in a bite. Mutton Kotu curry: Delicious. Must try. Goat curry: (goes with the paratha) All meat entrees were cooked to perfection and had individually distinguishable flavors and taste.
They have are currently moving to a new location as I write this review but we're confident that the taste will move too. This is the only place that is open between lunch and dinner hours.
Ambience: Will update once I visit their new location Quantity: Generous Price point: Costlier as compared to other places but worth every dime. Parking: Will update once I visit their...
Read moreI am a sucker for good spicy food. Not the one where my tongue is burning so much so I lose the flavor of what I am eating. But good spicy food which tingles my taste buds without having me reach for water, again and again.
On of my colleagues is heading to India to get married and we decided to take him to a new south Indian restaurant that has opened up in Santa Clara in the last few months. I had noticed Aappa Kadai from a distance few days ago and promised myself a trip before the year was done. I didnt have to wait for long.
Aachi Aappa Kadai is a Chettinad style restaurant on El Camino Real, not too far from the San Tomas Expwy-El Camino Real intersection. The owners trace their roots to the popular Madura south Indian vegetarian restaurant on Homestead Avenue in Cupertino. But unlike Madura, Aappa Kadai very much specilizes on everything non-vegetarian. Native to the cuisine is their seafood delicacies but I am not hear to review food I dont eat. I will review the vegetarian delights I sampled on my trip to the place.
We were a famished lot when we entered the place. We had made reservations which was a smart move as I noticed the crowd swelling as lunch time hit its zenith. We ordered vegetable pakoras as appetizers and appams with different curries based on our leanings. I ordered appam with vegetable korma. The pakoras arrived quickly and were piping hot and crisp. It was delicious and had a nice spicy finish to it.
Soon after the appams started arriving. Each order consisted of two sizeable appams with a cup of stew to go with it. The appams were excellent. The stew was fantastic. It was pretty spicy so make sure you can handle it before you head to the place. Two appams were not sufficient. Thankfully I could place a side order of just one appam to finish my meal. I finished it off with a nice cup of masala tea and felt fulfilled.
Overall, the place is a nice addition to the bustling food scene in South Bay. It offers an alternative to Anjappars, the only other Chettinad place in the vicinity. Food can be spicy but also extremely tasty if you are willing to...
Read moreOn a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this restaurant as 10 for the consistent taste and food quality - Simply delicious!! Good Food coupled with Good attitude towards Customers does matter specially if you are inches away from obtaining the Michelin Star! We visited the restaurant on Jun 26th order # 22037 and had a delicious meal. However a wrong Bill was erroneously presented to us order # 22041 for a higher amount, we detected the error and pointed out and the gentleman immediately apologized and promised that on our next visit he would oblige us by offering a discount of 10 %. The detectable food compelled us to visit yet again on Jul 4th order # 22584 . Instead of honoring the 10 % as promised the person at the counter perhaps had a bad day pointed at the sign on the wall that read that they had a right to refuse to serve and we could leave the Restaurant after settling the dues and choose not to visit again. On both the occasions we left after having consumed the Tastiest Meal yet with a Bad taste in our Mouth. Both Good and Bad publicity is carried out by way of Mouth and has a dramatic effect on the success of a Restaurant. I would urge the owner to kindly intervene and not to change the existing Staff but request them to Change their existing Attitude. Restaurants serving awesome food are almost extinct and I'm not going anywhere, will hop in time and again. Continue to maintain consistency and all the very Best...
