We'd had some good history with the Mimi's in Northridge and were hoping for the same here in Santa Clarita. Although the service was good, the food and overall ambiance of this location feels a little less upscale than the other one we'd been to. Would the food make up for it? Well, no the food was on par with the overall vibe.
We were there for brunch (that's what us fancy people call late breakfast). I started with coffee as any sensible person does in this kind of situation. Unfortunately, this coffee was in the "browned water" category...ie not strong at all although it looked like coffee. Good coffee is a make-or-break situation for me at a restaurant serving breakfast so, sadly, we started out with "break."
I went for their "favorite" Pain Perdu with Mixed berries dish. It's served with a side of eggs any style and, normally meat, but they were nice enough to sub roasted potatoes for me. The eggs and potatoes were basic and fine. The Pain perdu was supposed to be a french toast situation with a cream cheese filling, plus syrup and marmalade...This had the potential to be a really decadent dish, but fell really flat. The french toast was soggy. The cream cheese filling ended up just an unnecessary addition and overall it felt like too many ideas in one dish that didn't really mesh together...or at least wasn't cooked the way it should have been.
My wife enjoyed her eggs florentine which they served over spinach for her without the English Muffin (she's gluten-free and they don't have any gluten-free bread options.) It was nice that they could accommodate here and she thought the eggs were poached perfectly.
Overall I wish the atmosphere felt a little nicer for a french-inspired restaurant, I wish the coffee tasted like coffee, and I wish the dish I ordered was a lot better than it was. I doubt will be back soon...BUT I am a sucker for a vegetarian quiche option which they have so anything...
Read moreIt is sad to say we had a bad experience.
We ordered a Parisian ham Baguette , it has 3 things inside ham, brie cheese, mixed greens. Well they forgot to put the brie cheese in there.
The order had already taken a long time to get to our table & then waited for the waitress to let them know at that point she was really nice asked us , if we want a new one & we just didn't have time had eaten part of it already since it took long to get the dish to start with, so we asked for the cheese. of course since the original is toasted I am sure it would have tasted much better. it was just OK.
After this things got a little worse, We are totally out of water, no one around to refill it. After waiting for a while I went up to the counter with a cup I needed water & asked them for a water,. Not sure why they were very confused I am sure it is not normal for a sitting customer to come to the counter the person looked around said ok, Instead of filling up the cup with water was looking around for the waitress. I wish I knew where the water was I would have just got it my self. He said let me bring it to your table , OK that is nice so I sat back down I can see him from where I am sitting he filled up the water & started to help someone else. after few more minutes I went back to the counter & asked him for the water since it looks like he was taking a order or something.
Really after getting food wrong, Having to go up few times to get water. I would think there would have been some We are sorry for this. Take one of the things small things of the check something. There was few people around when I even asked for water which one looked like can be a manager they could have also jumped in to help the kid on the counter.
a nice Sunday brunch didn't turn...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went here for lunch hoping to get the same awesome experience we had at the Mimis cafe on the way to San Diego! Unfortunately not the case, the moment we walked into the door the hostess was not friendly, no smile, and had a cold ambience about her. Wanted to sit us at the very back of the restaurant between 4 other tables even though there was many open spots, so when we asked to be seated in the booth she led us there. Waited for 10 minutes to be greeted by the unfriendliest and rudest server named Fatima. She didn't even say hello, or introduce herself, she started with " what can I get you?" We had to ask for water and coffee refills, had to get up and ask her for the honey that she forgot, and she was just NOT attentive at all. We both got breakfast burritos and once again needed to ask for ketchup and hot sauce when it should be a given to give condiments with this brunch meal. She never even cared to ask how our food was, or if we needed anything. I guess since we had to ask for everything she thought we covered all our needs. When she did refill our coffee and water she poured over our meals so rudely instead of picking up the glasses like a considerate professional would do. This woman should not be in the service and hospitality industry if she doesn't genuinely care about her guests, and it's unfortunate for her because I'm sure her tips show for her sub par attitude. We love your restaurant, and had a great experience at the other location. We hope that you will take this review and make sure your staff is representing your business in a professional, grateful, and positive way instead of giving guests poor service, and ruining the name for...
