After dining at MSS for dinner this evening, I must log a report that conflicts with many of my fellow Google Maps reviewers. With a price point rivaling the great steakhouses in Dallas, Houston, etc., you expect an off the charts performance. MSS fell far short of the mark. So, Wednesday evening, 7:30pm, the restaurant not particularly busy, the stage was set for a spectacular dinner. Appetizer of smoked bone marrow ... way too salty. Not sure what it is about chefs and bone marrow, a thick coating of salt doesn't suit good bone marrow. The toasted bread helped tamper the salt, but it really wasn't that great. For dinner we each ordered the "New Mexico" cut steak ... a very expensive Waygu tenderloin, medium rare. What we were served was steaks barely cooked rare, purple and cold centers (check out the photos). I had a crab cake on mine, my better half got the lobster tail side. Both the crab cake and lobster tail were extremely "fishy," again for the price, you expect fresh, tasty seafood ... the lobster tail was taken away and the charge removed from the bill. My better half's tenderloin was returned to the kitchen and brought back out a few minutes later, half medium rare, half still cold and purple. For sides with dinner we had the chimichurri sauce, both very good. We ordered wine by the glass with dinner, that was good too! We decided to try dessert and an after dinner drink... lemon crème brûlée and a Brandy Alexander... the crème brûlée was just OK, again not tasting really fresh, the drink tasted strong but very milky, and was served "short," glass barely 1/2 full. Both dessert and the drink were edible, but sub-par. Some other observations... the restaurant suffered from a real lack of coordination and training of the wait staff... examples, the guy we thought was a waiter who first came to the table and brought water... we ordered wine from him, only to be greeted by our actual waiter 10 minutes later who knew nothing about the wine order. Different folks deliver the food to the table than your waiter, they have no idea what was ordered or how it was to be prepared (hence the delivery of raw $50+ steaks). The waiter was not very attentive, maybe because it wasn't that busy... empty plates and glasses sat on the table for 20-25 minutes, with the waiter and bus staff, and even a couple of mangers passing by multiple times... even when the empties were pushed to the middle of the table, they still sat there! The bus boy who finally came to clear the table after dinner asked "did you save room for dessert," and when we said, what do you have?, the response, "I don't know but I can bring you menus." So, a very disappointing evening, created by a lackadaisical staff that didn't care about the fare being served and a kitchen that didn't prepare good food. For the price tag, our time is better spent elsewhere. We cannot recommend MSS.

Not so good of a start. We arrived 10 minutes early and the hostess checked us in. We were told the table was being prepared (cleaned) and we sat down to wait. The table was given to a different couple because the names sounded similar and oops we would need to wait again for a table. Hmmm...

At last a table was ready and we were called and seated. My wife was lead to a seat and she sat down as the hostess departed. My wife then jumped up, she was bitten by something. At closer inspection the hard leather seat had a 3 inch slit where her bottom sat down. Another not a good beginning with a welt on ones bottom.

My wife after all this excitment went to the hostess and asked for directions to the women's restroom while telling the hostess about the seat. The hostess told her she would have the seat removed. Nothing happened.

The waiter then came by for our drink orders and we told him we were displeased about the seat episode. He apologized went behind me and lifted the chair over my head and removed it from the room. Finally some action! However he then returned with another chair and proceeded to lift it over my head and into place. Another not a good start.

The hostess then came out and apologized and asked my wife if she would like a cushion as she knows my wife's bottom was pinched. My wife said yes, the hostess left and brought back a cushion to sit on. My wife liked that. Now we were ready to proceed with ordering our meal when we can.

The waiter shows up, he is very busy with many customers as business is good, and we order. We asked for NO pepper on my wife's food, as she has sensitivity to pepper. I asked for NO garlic on my food, as I am sensitive to garlic.

The wedge salads arrive! The waiter departs. Mine is perfect, it is covered in pepper, no big deal for me. My wife's wedge is also covered in pepper, she can't eat it. The waiter doesn't come back until after I am finished. He asks my wife if she would like to hold on to her salad. My wife explains the pepper. The waiter apologizes and tells us it is his mistake. It happens. Nowadays nobody writes anything down. They are required to memorize the order. Mistakes happen we understand. Good news, the waiter returns and tells us he had taken the salad off the bill, we are glad we don't have to pay for something we didn't eat or was prepared wrong. Good stuff!

The Filet entrees were perfect! I asked for a glass of paired red wine when the filets were set on the table and it arrive within 2 minutes. Impressive! The side dishes were heavenly. At last, this is why we came!

After the meal my wife got and went to the ladies restroom. On her return to said, "There are no paper Towels in the ladies restroom. I told the hostess on the way back to the table".

The waiter was standing along side me and repeated to my wife the desserts available tonight. We ordered with coffee.

The dessert with bland, the coffee was harsh and dark, but it ended the meal appropriately.

When our dinner bill arrived it did not have the coffees or dessert on it. We guess this was in a way of an apology. We will never know as the were never told.

This meal could and should have been a 5 star experience if only the little details were better followed.

I expect the blame lies squarely with management. They are responsible for training of staff, live follow up observations, and focused attention to detail for greatest customer experience.

This was a 3 star experience, but should have been a 5 star experience....

My wife and I went here last night for our anniversary dinner and as much as I wanted to really like it, they just fell short on expectations. They started us out with a complimentary glass of champagne which was a nice touch and after perusing the menu I noticed that the Grilled Octopus was not on the menu as it is on the Bar Menu.

I asked the waiter about it and she said it was a Bar item only and that was it - no offer to let us have one considering the special occasion... every other restaurant I have ever been to has had no problem making an exception serving a main dining guest a “bar menu” item considering they’re cooked in the same kitchen and it’s at the same location, just steps away so that was a little disappointing since that was what I was really looking forward to!

We ordered the Bone Marrow, Cowboy Ribeye, Seared Scallops, Sautéed Wild Mushrooms and Smoked Blue Cheese Butter. The bread was nice and warm and the green chile butter was great, but it took over an hour to get the Bone Marrow appetizer from the time we sat down. The owner came to our table and apologized for the delay and said they had to fire up another one. Since my wife and I were in no rush, we didn’t really mind so we ordered a beer (on tap) and a dirty martini.

Shortly afterwards, a server came to our table to inform us that the beer I ordered was not available because their taps were all down so I had to make an alternate choice. This same person came from the bar area so wouldn’t it be safe to assume he could’ve also brought me a Grilled Octopus if I had ordered it from him instead?!? See the logic?!? Again another minor disappointment.

We finally received our Bone Marrow appetizer after 9:00pm (sat down at 8:00) and it looked great but the bacon jam on top overpowered the beefy marrow goodness and made the dish too sweet. My wife even commented on how sweet it was, but we finished it anyway since we were hungry.

Next came our Ribeye Steak and Seared Scallops with the accompaniments. Again everything looked great and my steak was cooked to medium rare but it was over-rested and only warm to the touch instead of hot as the Smoked Blue Cheese butter I ordered to go with it just sat on top instead of melting all over it. I still ate it because it was good, just not great!

My wife loved her scallops and risotto so at least she was happy. We might come here again, but we’ll most likely just do the bar menu instead so we can get the Grilled Octopus and not overpay for a slightly above-average meal that I could’ve probably made...
