Update!! Fort Marcy Suites, Unit #1, is a great location for exploring Santa Fe! The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. This was my second stay (I gave a previous review that was not so great due to issues in the unit that we stayed in, but decided to give it another try). This experience in Unit #1 was spectacular (March 9-11)! I only gave four stars due to the fact that we were afoot and carrying our luggage up multiple levels/flights of stairs was exhausting. If I had a wish for improvements at Fort Marcy Suites, it would be that they utilize their service vehicles to assist guests with luggage... I would gladly leave a gratuity to the individual.

PREVIOUS REVIEW: My stay at Fort Marcy Suites #15 was incredibly disappointing and embarrassing. Before I go to the negatives, may I say that your property overall is beautiful and serene, and the staff at Fort Marcy are very nice and prompt when needed.  Also, thank you for the early arrival/departure times, and ability to store luggage briefly in the office. My lifetime friend (who now lives in Phoenix) and I decided to have a very short, last-minute reunion in Santa Fe.  I had never stayed at Fort Marcy, but Marta had stayed numerous times over the years, as well as I received glowing recommendations from some TMCEC Board members in Austin (where I was when this idea came to fore). I agreed to book our stay, and commenced a search based upon Marta's demands... kiva wood-burning/gas fireplace and great view. I booked "Suite #15" based on the pictures and reviews that I found at your website and other online reviews. Your printed descriptions were inaccurate:

  1. No wood-burning fireplace.  The fireplace had an insert with an electric cord trailing out the front that when turned on looked ridiculous [have pictures].  When I asked staff if any of the FM fireplaces had fire ability, she responded, "Oh yes, all of our fireplaces are wood-burning fireplaces!".
  2. Cleanliness issues.  Aside from stains on upstairs carpets (that I had read about in reviews) there was an opened Coke can on the balcony, a used tissue in the queen bedroom second drawer, and some unknown substance on the closet floor [have pictures of all].
  3. Smoke Detector issues.  We arrived on Saturday, stored our luggage at your office and strolled into town for lunch.  On our return, we checked around 1:30p or so. The smoke detector started chirping around 2:30-3:00p.  Your maintenance man came upon request, but stated that alarms were directly linked to SF Fire Department and he could do nothing.  [NOTE:  He seemed completely surprised about the fireplace situation, too..."Hope it doesn't get too smokey for you!"]. Thankfully the chirping stopped just as he had arrived.
  4. Sleep Issues/Smoke Detector.  At about 2:30-3:00a, the smoke detector began chirping again.  I telephoned the after hours number, as instructed; I never received a call back.  I telephoned the Santa Fe Fire Department non-emergency number and explained our situation.  They said they could turn it off, so we tried to go back to sleep.  HOWEVER, much to our surprise the Fire Department came to the unit, but by the time they arrived the smoke detector had quit chirping again. Sleep was restful for the few hours we did get.
  5. Front Door Draft.  The weather was very cold, but the front door to Suite #15 has a large gap at the base.  The living room was never really warm and the heating unit ran constantly.  As a suggestion, you might consider a door snake to...

When we initially arrived at FMHS we could not find our condo unit #76. There is not parking in front of the buildings, but rather parking lots or street parking from which you have to hall your luggage up and down many steps and down brick sidewalks to get to the unit. A map with directions to the unit and an indication of the distance to haul luggage would have been appreciated. This was a one bedroom unit.

Upon finding our assigned unit, we discovered that there were sand bags lined up across the front stoop separating the stoop and sidewalk. We had to step and carry our luggage over these sand bags in order to get to the front entry door. They must have a water intrusion issue due to the line of sand bags. Once inside, the condo unit was nicely decorated in a southwest theme with unique decor. There was blue tape on living area floor that says "rug goes here" but there was no rug. We turned the TV in the living room on to watch some news and it worked fine. There are 3 remotes and we used the Xfinity remote indicated on the instruction card. The next morning we used the same remote to try to turn the TV on and it would not turn on. We called the front desk and was told that they would send maintenance over when they had time. We were out for the day one upon our return that evening no one has come to fix the TV. We ended up unplugging it and the cable box for 30 seconds to reset it. That was the trick. The TV then came on. On a positive note, the unit was clean. They provided 4 bath towels, two hand towels, two black make-up removing clothes, but no wash clothes. There was one kitchen towel bot not a dish cloth.

There was a good variety of books available to read in the living room.

The bathroom does not have an exhaust fan so steam builds up a bit. As a result, there was some mold on the ceiling over the shower.

With a little more attention to detail this place could be a five star. It is just not...

It's time to rate this place! Let's be honest and stay on the fact that this place is not a real hotel type place, so please adjust your expectations as you are about to pay pretty much the same amount as you may end up at a 4-star hotel! We arrived after check-in hours, as I was expecting, and they were totally aware of this. Despite all the easy check-in instructions, we ended up having a nightmare checking in our room after a 15-hour road trip with two senior citizens with us. We followed all the instructions provided, but unfortunately, there was a screen asking for a pin that we did not have. It was like you wanted to log in to your computer but did not have your password. We tried to reach out to someone to assist, but the person who picked up the phone was absolutely rude and irresponsible, and she added to our frustration rather than assisting us. I think she mentioned that she was somewhere in Utah. I am not sure, and I really don't care! I think we were waiting for at least half an hour until someone came and provided us with a key! What a night, and what a welcome! Let's go back to the room and make it clear to all that this place is nothing more than a low- to medium-quality Airbnb, so as I said previously, be sure to adjust your expectations. The AC system was pretty loud when it was kicking on, and the dryer machine was even louder. This was for the room in which we were staying. Yours might be even worse, or maybe better. I am pretty sure that I will never try this place again, as I can find a much better place to stay at the same price in the heart of historic downtown Santa Fe. I forgot to say that despite their promise to refund me for the hard time they gave me, I have never received any money back! Such a bad place, and what a...

Room 78 A little disappointing. We stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary. The location is great but the room was just okay. When we first walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The room looked very nice. Then we got settled in and realized the furniture (1 couch and two chairs) seemed to be made for children. They were very uncomfortable and small. Next, the bathroom. The toilet is very awkward. The counter extends over the tank. You have to be a contortionist to grab toilet paper and flush. The shower has a tiny half wall that allows the water to splash all over the place, floor included. The bedroom, oh the bedroom. The bed was very noisy. You couldn't even move on it without it squeaking loudly, and was like sleeping on concrete. I understand the units are all individually owned but this unit in particular needs new furnishings. We really liked the location and would be willing to stay at Fort Marcy Hotel and Suites again just in a different room.
