We chose High Desert Cafe and Bar at the Mystic, based on a previous review that stated the venue was a great place to hold a birthday gathering and that the staff was very accommodating for a large party. Unfortunately, we were really disappointed with our experience. We had booked a table for a party of ten for a special 40th birthday dinner. The woman in charge immediately informed the first few guests to arrive that she would start pulling tables if not everyone was seated at the same time. It was a surprise birthday party, so the guest of honor was going to be a bit later by design. Still, and very publicly, the woman kept threatening to pull tables until all 10 guests were seated and orders placed. The bar area and surrounding tables were not even half occupied. Then, once we were seated, she informed us that due to the weather, they had to move the musical act inside, and if we wanted to stay past 7 p.m., each guest would be charged for cover. We had brought our own cake, but they said they would charge $5 a slice to serve it, so we took the cake back to the car. On the bright side, the food was decent and the servers were nice and attentive, and they were kind enough to comp the dessert in the end. But we were glad to be out of there before we were charged to stick around any longer. All in all, it was a pretty stressful experience. I understand timely seating, paying the band, and serving outside desserts, but in no way were they willing to work with us. I wanted to give High Desert a good shot, as they are new on the Santa Fe scene, and we still made the best of the situation, but I won’t be back soon and can’t recommend the venue for any...
Read moreEight of us gathered in their cozy patio to celebrate my birthday with drinks and munchies. The service was constant and amazing. It's the small things I noticed (in addition to prompt attention, food and drink): the waitress said she would split the bill (!!) Although we only wanted one check--that offer while taking the first round of orders says a lot. And, I NEVER ran out of water! I drink a lot of water here in the desert, even when imbibing, and I always have to ask for more water--but not here!! The cocktails were good, and imaginative. We had a chacuterie board, which had a good variety, and chips with quacamole--all tasty. Like most larger parties, ours straggled in over time. But the waitress and servers made sure no one had to wait to get a drink in hand. They were remarkably patient with our "old people's" carousing. It was our first time (for all of us), and we will definitely...
Read moreMe and my family went to desert Cafe cause we were looking for a place to have breakfast on Google. The pictures didn't disappoint so we decided to check it out. At first our waiter was very nice. Until all of a sudden at the end he got very confrontational. Asking why we came there, if it was a birthday, asking us were we're from and why we came. We felt very unwelcome. We understood that it was located in the motel, but they never told us that the cafe was SPECIFICALLY for the guests there. If you ever want to be detective interrogated and unwelcome I fully recommend coming here!!
Also the pictures were misleading we thought there would be more about pastries but the menu there is very limited, with only having 4-5 sweet things on the menu. And only 1 page full of what's recommended.
Never coming...
