The Britannia British Pub. It is April 30th, 2025. It is my beloved cousin's birthday. We normally take a simple meal in our area and during which I deliver my gifts. This year was different. In our phone call the night before, we both expressed a sort of wanderlust, and so we began driving without destination. The road led us to a favorite coffee shop in W. Hollywood, and we discussed where we would go next. It was a dreary day, overcast, so we decided to seek the sunshine and fresh air of Santa Monica. We went to a city parking lot right on the beach, with the intent of dipping a toe in the Pacific Ocean, thereby ending our short adventure. We looked at each other and noticed that we were not dressed for a beach outing. We noticed that the hike to the shoreline was nearly 200 yards, and both knew that our event was over. We both began to drive home. We had failed. I thought about lunch. "Let's get a sandwich or something at the Santa Monica Promenade," says I. We were both a bit peckish, so we took a spot in a public parking lot a block away and headed to our future. We had not walked a full block when we heard people, happy people, watching a football match, cheering. As we approached, we noticed a friendly little bar, people smiling, and some match on the many TVs. "Let's go in." We entered the Britannia Pub. It is on the old Route 66. It has a nice outdoor patio and big open windows so that guests can also enjoy the fresh ocean air. Very nice. We were greeted by Max, the barkeeper, who smiled so broadly at us that we were forced to smile back. As it turns out, we had arrived during happy hour, and we were handed a menu. There was a standing chalkboard by the door that read, "Fish and Chips, $7.50." We like fish, so we ordered 2 of those. Neither of us drink anymore, so we ordered two Diet Colas. The fish and chips arrived in a few minutes and were fresh, crispy, and delicious. We asked about what teams were playing, and the crowd was filled with people who were only too happy to describe the game. We got lucky by finding the Britannia British Pub. It is an inexpensive and fun place. The food is delicious. The crowd is welcoming and advised us that the drinks are strong. Read moreThe service was horrible! I don't know if the person who talked to us was the owner or not but he was very close minded and frankly RUDE. My sister is handicapped and we wanted to go upstairs where the pool table was located. We were already carrying her chair up the stairs, mind you it was very safe one person in the back and another in the front and the staircase is pretty small so there was no way for her to fall through the sides. As we were going up he yelled to bring her down that because "her going up the stairs was a liability". He kept repeating it over and over a few times and said she couldn't go up at all and he had another table in the corner where she wouldn't be in the way. Even the people listening to the whole conversation were upset. Needless to say we left. My sister felt ashamed and wanted to cry for the way that we were treated. We go to so many restaurants where it is not always accessible for her however the staff is always very cordial or very accommodating. I understand he was scared she might fall but he could have had one of his MANY men workers help bring her up that way he made sure nothing would happen or explain why she couldn’t go up however all he did was yell and tell her she was a liability and nothing else no apology or no explanation nothing. THAT IS DISCRIMINATION!!!! Safe to say we wont be returning. In the 30 years she has been alive she has never been teated or discriminated as bad as in this tacky pub. It’s dirty and dingy (look at the other reviews) anyways please take your business...
Read moreLike most of the reviews say, terrible service. I wanted to give them a try because they had the soccer game on and people sounded like they were having fun.
I sat at the bar, the bartender looked right at me and said nothing. Kept his back to me for several minutes. Someone else walks in and sits at the other end of the bar and he gives immediate service to him. Bartender then goes towards the back to talk to a coworker. He finally reluctantly served me after I had been waiting for almost 10mins. Never smiled either. I got a shot and a beer and I could hear him audibly groan at my $2 tip on and $18.50 tab. He's lucky I left him a tip. I also noticed as time went by, they tend to not want to serve people of color. Others got immediate service, but the other people of color were dismissed.
Never again....
