Betty's Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Santa Rosa

How have i lived in Santa Rosa 36 years and missed this place??? I don't want to give it too high a review because otherwise the whole city will come running and it will become too crowded to go. We absolutely loved our lunch here today. Yes, it is a little high priced, but is worth every cent. Everything is great. (healthy fresh, tasty, and served hot!). The fish tacos are scrumptuous with homemade guacamole and homemade pico de gallo. The deep fried zucchini was wonderful. I have grown up on great pies but their pie was even better than my mom's, and that is saying a lot! Thank you to the precious owners that do all the work for our enjoyment! The quick and very friendly service made the visit perfect!

After giving such a glowing report, we had a very unusual experience at Betty's and thought their staff might want to re-think this one. We went back for more of those wonderful fish tacos several weeks back, and my husband ordered a serving (which comes with two very large tacos) for us to split, and he ordered another order of fish and chips for our guest. When the food arrived, both plates were just fish and chips. My husband explained that we must have gotten someone else's order because we had ordered the fish tacos, but the waitress said, no, that if we wanted fish tacos we would have to order them again and pay for both orders. This struck us as very strange. We had come in specifically for the tacos so why should we pay for an error? In any case, she said the owner wouldn't budge on the misunderstanding so we just ate the fish and chips instead. The fish here is really good but the fries have changed, and in my opinion not for the best🥴 They used to taste like potatoes now they have nearly no potato but rather an over seasoned shell so now when I order fish I ask them to leave them out. Although they offer cole slaw in its place, I would rather have an option of a smalll reg salad. I feel this freshens up a meal that is all fried already. Now why the 3 stars?? One reason is pure greed.... my family has been coming here for 32 years!!! And although obviously prices have to rise but the new owners raise prices very frequently and severely. Whenever they receive a Zagat award it goes up and big time, No need to take a takeout menu because by the time you return the prices have gone up. I have mentioned this to them and they claim they are trying to get ahead of the upcoming minimum wage increase but they’ve said this for the last 3 yrs! I’m just advocating for all the seniors who have loved coming here all those yrs and made it what it is today and to consider they are on fixed incomes and like myself can only come now maybe 2 or 3 times a year😔 I just hope this will level out because I do enjoy the fish and would like to invite friends who have never been here yet, but sadly, even though I’d like to, I can’t afford to...

Two of the four of us didn't realize the amazingness of Betty's Fish and Chips. We had two Betty's newbies with us. We went with friends for a lovely Sunday lunch. What a treat. Two of us shared the captains plate with cole slaw the other two ordered the two piece fish and chips. We ordered onion rings and bowls of clam chowder for the table. The Icelandic Cod was perfectly cooked and not greasy at all. The chips were crisp, tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. The clam chowder was a borderline religious experience. The absolute upper escilon of clam chowder with firm not over cooked diced potatoes and there was no grit at all. Perfection in a bowl. The clam chowder was available in a bread bowl, which we did not get. On to the dessert! The Lemon Cloud was light and fluffy. The pastry crust was flaky and not too sweet. I swear it was touched by my Grandma's hands. The Macaroons were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Melt in your mouth with a nice chocolate coating.
