1st off, if you need a restroom, go before you come here - they dont have a public restroom sadly, & thats the only reason why I knocked off 2 starts on atmosphere.
The 1 star knocked off food is because they only have like 5 protein choices (asada (steak), al pastor (seasoned pork), chicken (shredded breast), carnitas (shredded pork) & i forgot the other. I came because id seen the old signs posted in pictures and it gave barbacoa as a protein option - they do not have barbacoa anymore, so if you seen that too, know they dont offer it anymore as of 11/6/2025. & I couldnt take a picture of what they offer now bc the far left monitor that had those details was not working - so the cashier had to tell.me verbally. She was helpful and patient.
I was reluctant to give this place a try at all bc they use chicken breast for chicken.... but I decided to go with the 2 taco lunch plate (al pastor) which comes with rice & beans chips and a fountain drink (free refills).
My #1 rule of thumb is always, if they charge for refills on fountain drinks at all, its not a good place, these refills being free gave me enough of a nudge to say - they didnt have the meat i wanted but we'll still give it a try. I added a large addition of guacamole ($2.55) + a large side of carnitas ($2.50) to have with the rice & beans. All together about $20, which is totally fair.
The al pastor tacos, they werent fresh cut off a trompa or anything, but most of the actual restaurants around santa rosa i noticed are so lacking in flavor in general.. this has not the trompa chars, but the flavor is definitely there. Another tell of a decent taco, is if the juice that drips out is clear - not a good taco. This al pastor juice drips orangy red as it should. It was 7/10 for me.
The carnitas is (maybe) the only exception on the clear drips, and even this dripped sort of a yellowy color.. which (sounds) bad, but its not, it was a good yellow, maybe they used a tiny bit of turmeric or cumin or other seasonings but it was not just plain boiled carnitas like a lot of places do. Perfectly salted. Carnitas 9/10
Both the red and the green Salsas fantastic! I prefer the red, they do have a hot roja if you ask for it too, I have a beast tongue when it comes to spice, it had a slight kick, but most might think it a decent kick. Roja salsas 9/10 the not hot roja had a pleasant cool tomato flavor - it reminded me of gazpacho with a mexican twist. I dug it.
The rice and beans werent terribly memorable, but they werent bad at all either. They were perfectly seasoned, I didnt feel the need to search for salt at all for this whole meal, which is great. The beans were a fantastic addition for dipping the chips. Rice beans & chips 7/10
Lastly, the guacamole was decent too. It was not pureed, it was fresh smashed and had cilantro in it which I love. They didnt overdo it with additions & it was also perfectly salted. Good to use for the chips that came with the lunch along with the beans. Guacamole 9/10 for me.
I do wish they had even just 1 singular grilled jalapeño or Serrano pepper, that would have been icing on the cake.
After everything, im not too full or still hungry. Perfectly satisfied. Id...
Read moreOne of the better taquieras in Santa Rosa based upon flavor alone. Grab and go. All the meats are marinated, I have no idea how they get the seasonings so on point with basically everything. The steak is amazing as is the pastor. The red salsa is one of the smokiest, spiciest in town. . . Not for lightweights but absolutely banging. The tacos are quite small for the price, everything could be a little larger for the cost, but you are sacrificing portion size for a life-changing taco, quesadilla (the best anywhere) and sometimes the burritos just hit. No bubble guts or cleanliness issues. Its a tightly run spot with exceptionally nice women who work there and really, really good Mexican basics. Fresh everything. If you want enchiladas or big plates hit a different spot. Freaking Tacos has a no-nonsense minimalist menu. If you want a taco plate, quick to-go burrito, this place...
Read moreCame here right before closing the other day. (+) Firstly just grateful they took us in! It was about 5 minutes before closing and they were not upset that we dropped by at all. The lady who helped us was super friendly, and very quick on understanding and entering in all of my husband's taco modifications, which was super impressive. (+) Clean place in a strip mall, nothing fancy but not a hole in the wall by any means. (+) Wet-ritto add guac was realy good! Guac wasn't really guac but more just mushed up avocado, which I was totally fine with. I do wish there was pico de gallo in the burrito, but the sauce was really good, burrito was a great size, and the al pastor was yummy. (+) Quesadilla was yummy (+) Tacos were yummy too
This place is great for the price and if you're craving the basics. Would definitely stop by this...
