First off, the arrival on Friday was right at check-in time and the two staff that were there were obviously overwhelmed, but they were very courteous and professional and helpful. They were the best part of the stay. Everything else afterward was just downhill. So, my best to those two staff members on Friday. On Saturday, the midday staff person was unkind, discourteous, unprofessional, and rude, and possibly incompetent. I was leaving the room for a little bit and, as I do in all hotels, I went to inform the front desk staff that I was leaving for a little bit and would like my room serviced. I get to the front desk, and when I approached, she made it seem like I was bothering or inconveniencing her. I informed her I was going out and that I would like my room cleaned. Her response was along the lines of, "I'm not the maid." Obviously she's not the maid! I also had found a piece of electronics in my room under my bed (because that's where the ironing board and iron were kept?!) and turned it in. I suggested that it might belong to one of the staff or the previous guest. I'll get back to that later. But the whole interaction with that front desk attendant just left a really bad taste in my mouth. On Sunday, check out day, I was patiently waiting downstairs with all of my stuff to check out. I was second in line, first in line by the counter by the elevators as the same attendant from my Saturday experience was helping another guest check out. As I was waiting, other guests arrived through the front door to check out. After the attendant finished with the gentleman in front of my, she then assisted the people who came in the front door, greeting them with, "hi, how can I help you?" And "how was your stay?" And "I heard there was a lot of noise last night, here's a voucher." (The guests didn't hear any disturbance.) "Would you like me to print out a receipt?" When it was finally my turn (it already had been, but I was skipped), it was completely different. When it was my turn to check out, it was obvious why I was there (I had my suitcase and a couple of bags), the attendant said, for some reason her manger completely changing, "Do you need something?" (Instead of "how can I help you?" as with the previous guests.) I explained I was checking out. "Room number?" (As opposed to "what was your room number?) I said my room number. She did some stuff and then muttered under her breath soon could hardly hear, "Your receipt will be emailed" (as opposed to offering me the choice of receiving a printed receipt like she did the previous guest). I informed that I would like a printed receipt. This apparently inconvenienced her, because it then took much longer for me to get a receipt than it did the previous guest. As I was standing there looking at the receipt, she asked "do you need something else?" I said no, just looking at my receipt. At no time did she inquire about my stay out how it was. I know she could be courteous, because she was too the previous guests--I have no idea why she treated my with such vitriol. After I got home, I received a lost and found email from a service the hotel uses indicating that electronics had been turned in from my room on Saturday. I know, I turned them in indicating they're not mine and they might have belonged to the previous guest. I was there Friday -Sunday, and it was I who turned them in in Saturday, so I'm wondering why I was getting the email (number 1), and if they really were turned in on Saturday, why wouldn't I have been notified of them on Saturday or Sunday, before I checked out. Not sure if that's incompetence. I emailed the hotel at the email address I received messages signed by the general manager indicating that I wanted to discuss, but I never received a response (except three automated responses to take the survey), so I guess that is just the culmination of my overall experience: the hotel does not care about its guests or their...
Read moreIt was great cause it has this ol' timey feel and look about the place, turn of the 20th century style feel, but if you're into checking out haunted hotels, this is one to check out, I recently started there with my girlfriend and we had a room on the 4th floor, and at one point in the night we were on the bed watching TV and talking and there was a whole sperate living room area which you had to go back into from the bedroom if you wanted to use the bathroom or leave the room. So we're sitting there and I gradually hear a faint, almost static sound, so I get up and walk into the living room toward the door thinking the noise is coming from out side the room but before I get passed the bathroom I noticed the noise wasnt coming from outside the room but in the bathroom, so I figured it was the toilet running, and when I opened the bathroom door, it was the faucet in the sink running on full blast. So I asked my girlfriend how come she forgot to turn off the sink faucet since she was the last one in the bathroom and she assured me she did turn it off, I let it go as a simple brain fart from her and didn't assume anything. While we were sleeping she woke up to use the bathroom and wakes me up asking me if I had left the sink faucet running, on the cold setting, and I didn't, I wash my hands with warm water, so if I turned off the hot water, I'm turning off the cold water too. So I found that to be strange. So the only reason why I gave it 4 Stars is cause there are no mini fridges in the rooms. I get they are trying to keep that ol' timey feel but get a hidden mini fridge for each room or something, cause if you want ice you have to have the person at the front desk get it for you and if your trying to keep a 6 pack cold, in the sink cause there's no mini fridge, one bucket of ice isn't going to cover it and i don't want to be a pest to the front desk person and keep coming back for a couple buckets of ice. But overall, pretty cool experience, oh and it's located in a very "happening" area of Santa Rosa, even...
Read moreA couple of years ago we stayed at a modern hotel downtown, but we like older properties when available, so on this trip we chose this one. We didn't regret it at all! The hotel was built in 1907, and it is appropriate to the period, with one flight o stairs having been salvaged from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. ||Unfortunately, the town is cut in half by the freeway and an awful, ugly mall that runs across several blocks. We love to walk, but found navigating through that area to the Courthouse Square side of town to be very unpleasant on foot. Even so, the blocks adjacent to the hotel have some interesting stores, good restaurants and bars - so it wasn't a huge issue. And there is parking on the other side of the freeway, so you can explore that side of town after a short drive.||Our room was very pleasant. Not the kind you'd expect in a more modern building, but that wasn't what we were looking for. It was VERY noisy at times - local residents seem to love cruising around the area with 1000 watt speakers blaring and their windows rolled down, and the windows are single-paned 'sash' windows, which don't cut out much traffic noise. By 11pm though all that had mostly settled down and generally we slept well.||The bed was comfortable, with way too many comforters - we slept without them. The bathroom was functional, and we were amused by the receptionist who had to repeat to every guest "Pull the shower handle out of the wall"- because the valve had to be pulled forward to operate! One vanity faucet was amusing, because if you turned it too far off, it came back on again! The TV was comparatively tiny, but we hadn't gone there to watch TV. The hotel provided a small fridge when requested - they are not in every room, so if that's something you need, let them know. ||The hotel has a charm of its own. If you are looking for modern conveniences and furnishings, this might not be the place for you. If, like us, you appreciate staying in period properties, I am sure you will find this...
