This is the real deal, authentic Italian Gelato in America. You owe it to yourself to try this place. To me, Gelato was synonymous with overpriced ordinary ice cream, until I visited Florence, Italy and had Gelato at a well known place. The Gelato I had in Florence was a 10, the best ice cream I had previously tasted in America was a 6. Since I came back I have had Gelato at dozens of places trying to duplicate my Florence experience. Gelato-go comes the closest. They use Italian machinery, and ingredients imported from Italy. Every flavor I have tried here has been excellent. I rate them 9/10, and far better than any other place I have tried in America. I have made several visits. Their coffee is amazing also. Real Gelato is less creamy than ice cream. The flavors are natural and they are intense. The most amazing thing about real gelato is that it looks homogeneous but keeps the flavor elements separate. If you get Coffee gelato you can taste the bitter expresso and the sweet cream as separate elements until they combine in a flavor explosion in your mouth. I am gluten free and dairy free, so an “ice cream cone” for me is rare! But Alonso homemakes all the gelato flavors from scratch using fresh ingredients - nothing artificial is their claim. In addition to the 15 or so diary flavors, he also offers not 1 (like most places do) but 6 dairy free options, including my favorite “Chocolate!” The cones are all gluten free. This is our third trip to Sarasota and what a treat to find Gelato Go!!!! Hubby and I were in town for two weeks and we visited this cute little establishment every night but one! Our adult children and grandchild went with us and enjoyed the gelato and sorbet! My fav was the lemon sorbet…so refreshingly yummy! The rest of the family were treated to delicious gelato flavors: coffee, tiramisu, peanut butter! The owners were very friendly, sincere, and personable.
