Urbanite Theatre — Attraction in Sarasota

My favorite venue for drama anywhere in Florida. Edgy, exciting, intimate black box productions that focus on human interaction and always give you a lot to think and talk about. I've seen about 8 of their productions, and liked them all. The present show, "Pilgrims" is the best yet. The quality of acting, directing, set design, and choice of plays is always top notch. For one show, the audience surrounds the stage; for the next all the seats are on one side, with nobody more than about ten feet away from the actors. They are super laid back. They even offer you a free glass of wine when you arrive, and you can bring it into the theatre if you like. Prices are reasonable, especially the $5 deal for students, and when we missed a show they let us stand by at the next...

A group of my friends, I call us “The Urbanites”, have been seeing shows for the past 4+ years. We make a full outing of it, grabbing dinner/lunch and then the show. It’s really what I live for 💕

Every show has been thoughtfully chosen, produced, acted, and staged.

I anticipate what the stage will look like this time, how the seating will be arranged and the small details of the set; phenomenal set design.

The shows can range from comedy, mystery, to sci-fi, to social commentary and more. But the way each story is told has that bit of grit to it, just something about them that speaks to you.

The intimacy of the place, the off-brand style of theater, and the visceral experience of some of the shows keeps us wanting more and...

First time to Urbanite Theatre and saw ‘A Sceptic and a Bruja’ . The entire experience was fantastic. First, i must say the play itself and each actor in their own right were so impressive. What talent and energy. The writing of the play itself, the set and all of the dynamics were so professional and immersive. We laughed, had tears and were engaged from the opening to the end. Bravo!!

Then the theatre itself — oh my! Much smaller than I though it was from walking by it over the years but so PERFECT in every way.
