Expensive smoothies.

Updated review to 2 stars: After a positive experience with Avocado toast (see at bottom) we decided to go back a few days later. We read the extensive smoothie menu hanging on the wall above the counter and decided to each get a peach smoothie (“Sup Peaches”). We were then told they didn’t offer that one any longer and that the smoothies they didn’t have were covered up in blue tape. While it’s true a few were covered in blue tape, the peach smoothie was not. They doubled down and we had to point out to them that the menu still showed peach smoothies as available.

We then had to re-decide on new smoothies and we decided to do a build your own as they listed peach there and we thought we would build our own peach smoothie. The person we ordered with wasn’t sure if they had peach or not so had to double check and they were out of both peaches, and the peach smoothie option. The individual peach in the “build your own” section was also not covered with tape.

Normally no big deal but it was how they doubled down on it and we had to point out to them that their own menu was wrong based on what they were saying.

Their smoothies are also expensive. Just a block or 2 up Portage there is a lovely cafe where we found peach smoothies for at least $2 less.

First rated 5 stars as this was one of the only places in the Soo we found whole grain bread and the avocado toast was pretty good, albeit expensive for what it was. It also had raw red...

We're from out of town and were looking for a quick breakfast. I get it's not a full on restaurant but super limited menu. We decided on the wrap for each of us and a water each. We paid, and sat at the bar to wait for it. About 10 minutes passed before I asked one of the girls behind the bar for the waters we asked for. She said "Like , a cup of water? " I said yes, she said "2 of them?" I said yes. She seemed confused. No one spoke to us the entire time we were there unless we got their attention. About 30 minutes later we got our food. It was alright. Didn't blow our hair back or anything. The biggest thing was every person there was very cold and avoided engaging with us.. didn't even get a thank you or goodbye on the way out . Maybe it was obvious we weren't local but I've worked in customer service for many years in particular the restaurant industry. Seems like you would want to make a better first impression...

I posted my first 5 star review here 6 years ago...I still stand by that. This place is not your typical anything. Which makes it perfect to me. They use the best coffee, roasted by Les Cheneau Coffee Roasters, which is "just" south of here on the south side of the UP. It is by far the best coffee I've ever had - every single blend, including their cold brew and their espresso.

Beside that, the food is awesome! Hands down, always get one of the specials (if they aren't sold out yet!). I don't know who does the menu but they probably should get paid more. Simple, healthy, delicious, I would eat here for every meal if it were possible 😂.

The staff is also great, friendly, and accommodating.

The atmosphere is nice as well, you have to go here to really understand. They frequently change up how the furniture is arranged, which is fun. And unlike a lot of coffee or breakfast places, there is...

I can’t express how good their coffee is here! I would give this place 10 stars if I could! They have the regular coffee drinks and teas, but they also have coffee drinks you can’t find anywhere else. This time around I went with the Cafe Canadien! The Canadien coffee drink had maple syrup, brown sugar and whipped cream on black coffee. It wasn’t to sweet for me, but I could have done without the brown sugar. Maple and coffee pairs wonderfully together. I could taste the Canadian charm in my cup of coffee. In a coffee shop like this, we were expecting to pay a premium for the premium coffee we received, but no. Each drink ranges from 1.75 to 5.00. We ended up getting 4 specialty coffee drinks for around 12 dollars. The interior of the shop was superbly decorated with reclaimed wood, and hiking gear. This was the best stop of the day!

We had a great experience at Bird's Eye over Labor Day weekend! First, we did the Soo Locks kayak with Ken, who led the tour. It was perfect weather, and Ken navigated us through the St. Mary's River and the locks. He gave us a ton of information before the kayak, and when we hit some rough parts, he guided us through and kept us in the best position. When we were done, we went back to Bird's Eye and then had a couple of beers and a delicious sandwich, then went back later in the day for an afternoon coffee. They had everything we needed, and the food was great.
