I am a military spouse. I say this because I was introduced to this place in 2015 by a cousin who lives in NC, but is from Savannah. I have driven to them from Prattville, AL, Concord, NC, Jacksonville, FL, & on 10/10 from Orlando, FL. I would go out of the way (it is never in the direction we're going) and even send my husband when he'd travel down south to go to Bo Bo's for the shrimp & each time I would spend no less than $45 but we normally would get the LG metal pans of shrimp. I never knew they did garlic blue crabs until 8/20 when I made a trip to them. On 10/10 I drove up & purchased 2 trays of shrimp & 3 crab trays. When I sat to enjoy the crabs I noticed a few were mushy, which means the crabs were dead or almost dead prior to being cooked. I just figured it was only a few (no big deal). Sunday, the more I tried to eat, the more I ended up trashing. ALL 3 trays were mushy! I called on Monday (assuming they closed on Sunday) & requested a manager. The guy who answered wanted to know what was wrong. I told him. He then said he'd get the manager. I had to explain AGAIN, but this still wasn't the manager! This was the guy who completed my order (#51) & he remembered me (he was very nice). Then he puts someone else on the phone who doesn't speak English well. I had to explain AGAIN!! He kept telling me to bring it back & as I explained to ALL 3 men, I DON'T LIVE IN SAVANNAH! I'M BACK IN ORLANDO!! He got defensive & told me something about fresh crabs. I've been eating crabs for 42 years now & purchasing/steaming them for at least 28. On top of that I am a Chef! I don't know what they could have done to help me but what I didn't expect was what he did next...HUNG UP ON ME!! POOR customer service!! I will NEVER spend anymore money there & I will tell my entire family who does live there about what happened & to stop patronizing this business!! This is NOT how you treat customers, especially when I've literally driven across the country to come to your establishment (8/20 I went out of my way coming from AZ & we spent $200 on food!!) Really sad!! Lost a loyal customer!! Oh and the crabs smelled like ammonia which is used in the food industry (mainly seafood) to mask the smell of...
Read moreBobo's Seafood is always busy, no matter what day of the week or weekend I go when in Savannah. The cooked shrimp with seasoning and the spicey conch is always good. The garlic crab and low country boil is also good. I'm not too fond of the devil crab because it doesn't look like a traditional devil crab. Bobo's devil crab is an handmade oval shaped clump of little crabmeat and plenty of breading that need to be baked in the oven to brown. I have never ate the spicey squid, fish, or oysters, so I can't comment. The cooked blue crabs and king crab legs are good and seasoned well. If you are looking for a good shrimp fry, Bobo's is the only place I can find Louisiana Shrimp fry in the pink bag. I live in Atlanta and I can't find it anywhere. On a side note, when visiting Bobo's pack a lot of patience and confidence, because if you've never been to a fresh inner city seafood market, you are in for an experience. The establishment is located across the street from a hood McDonald's and a Liquor store and sometimes creepy looking people are lurking around the outside of the building. The building is well lit, but you may be approached by someone who is adamant about selling you something most likely stolen. I would highly recommend going to Bobo's during the daytime, when there's less creepy people roaming and trying to hustle the patrons. Lastly, the overall customer service is good. I've never had a...
Read moreThere are quite a few small seafood shops/vendors in Savannah. When I first moved here from the West Coast it was one of those Southeast quirks that thoroughly charmed me. What sets Bobo’s apart is the variety of food available. They had mussels, crayfish and snow crab legs in addition to fresh shrimp. All wonderful additions to my Holiday low country boil. And there’s been no inflation in shrimp. It’s still fresh. Lovely and the same price it’s been for years!
Those items are the reason I chose this place. However, it’s 4 stars (not 5) for two reasons. 1.) The crayfish, crab and mussels were all pre-cooked and frozen. I realize it would be asking a LOT for a smaller shop to maintain that kind of inventory of fresh food and something like snow crab legs would be brutally expensive fresh. And all those seafood items get dropped into the end of the boil and work just fine. Don’t let the frozen part put you off. However, crab and mussels may not work fresh but crayfish…That’s a southern staple.
Also, it’s cash only. That always puts me off a bit.
Anyway, if you’re looking for the one stop shop to supply your...
